9/11 Tapes Reveal Ground Personnel Muffled Attacks

Gail Sheehy writes a stunning piece in the New York Observer which reveals frightening and damning details of American Airlines' active coverup as the early 9-11 events unfolded. The story centers on a families-only briefing where tapes were played, some of which surfaced this week at the commission hearings and some of which have yet to do so:

Despite all the high secrecy surrounding the briefing, a half-dozen different family members were so horrified by voice evidence of the airlines’ disregard for the fate of their pilots, crew and passengers that they found ways to reveal some of what they heard on those tapes, and also what they felt. To them, the tapes appeared to show that the first instinct of American and United Airlines, as management learned of the gathering horror aboard their passenger planes on Sept. 11, was to cover up.

The response of American’s management on duty, as revealed on the tape produced at the meeting, was recalled by persons in attendance:

"Don’t spread this around. Keep it close."

"Keep it quiet."

"Let’s keep this among ourselves. What else can we find out from our own sources about what’s going on?"

The two “black boxes” for Flight 93 are found. However, they are deemed severely damaged, and it isn't known if the data could be recovered. Months later, the FBI reveals they know the contents, but only release select quotes (see December 21, 2001).

A published account of flight attendant Madeline Amy Sweeney's phone conversation from hijacked Flight 11 appears to contradict the official account. She reports four hijackers, not the official five, and the seat numbers she gave do not correspond with the ones in the official version. This discrepancy still has not been explained. A later, fuller account of her call adds even more curious details (see July 18, 2002).

The government releases flight control transcripts of three of the four hijacked planes (see the transcripts here: ). Strangely, Flight 93 is left out. Yet even the three released transcripts are incomplete (for instance, Flight 77's ends at least 20 minutes before it crashes), and certain events that are part of the official story don't show up on these transcripts.
