Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas Wednesday met with China's most powerful politicians, receiving promises of economic cooperation from an Asian giant eager to expand its influence in the Middle East region.
Abbas, on his first trip to China since assuming the reins from the late Yasser Arafat, held talks during the day with both President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
"China and Palestine should further strengthen inter-governmental economic cooperation and implement agreements on economic and technical cooperation," Wen told his Palestinian visitor according to the state-run China News Service.
