not an article but an observation: since most of the readers here read Haaretz and I dont see much of it written there....heres some of the latest goings on:
the settlers, are now being divided, some who are willing to return to "pre 67" those who want to fight and those who want to increase the settlement package. For those who want to fight, as was expected, since fanatics are fanatics and believers with god on their side are simply "right", they are now starting to have conflicts with the IDF. And as can be expected many of those involved are teens and young adults. The latest incident being them throwing paint and eggs in Hebron at the police. And yes some were arrested, but they know the game and they know the laws as they have been briefed on what to expect and what their rights are....and who to call.....so they are not afraid....not at all. This is a problem for the police and israel, citizens who take advantage of laws that are designed to protect its innocent citizens from wrongly being accused, etc. The security forces are now in the midst of how to deal with them, both legally and practically on the "ground." So far the right wing have failed to "mobilize" much of the israeli population to their cause.
In some of the more extreme settlements they have been going out and terrorizing the local palesteniains, again no suprise there either, and in some ases, been arrested by the police. This will probably continue and increase in frequency. What is very clear to me, is that it is only sharon that can do what he is doing, dividing up the settlers into their subgroups and they by weakening them. It seems that nobody here doubts his plans as things are now starting to move: negotiations over the payments, equipment being put in to place near Gaza, training sessions being held...etc.
And of course we have our rabbis involved with the "wise sayings and vast knowledge, and since they have direct links to god....er I'll stop here as I fear that if I continue I might "throw up" all over my keyboard.....
all in all, nothing that is happening is really a surprise: the right has been divided up, the fanatics are doing whatever they can to disrupt, the general israeli population is quiet, as we trust sharon to do what he is doing...and the security forces are preparing to do what they are ordered to do.....not much on the "rufusnik side"
on the palestenian side, we dont hear a whole lot, a couple of attacks here and there, but it is quieter than before, as they too are quite busy with their own problems-gosh, that actually sounds like....normalization?.....or at least some "hints of it."
