Abbas deploys forces to stop attacks on Israel
JERUSALEM (CNN) -- In a move to stop rocket and mortar attacks on Israel, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered a two-phase deployment of security forces along the border with Israel, a statement from his office said Friday.

"The president ordered the Palestinian police, preventative security and the Intelligence units to spread inside the cities and refugee camps in the Gaza Strip to maintain order and protect the interests of the population," according to the statement.

The movement of Palestinian security forces came under threat of Israeli military action.

Earlier in the week, Israel approved plans for a major offensive in Gaza if the Palestinian Authority failed to stop Qassam rocket and mortar attacks on Israelis.

The first phase of the deployment was under way Friday with security forces in place in northern Gaza. Phase two will involve southern Gaza and is to take place within 48 hours.

According to Palestinian security sources, between 2,000 and 3,000 security forces members were to be deployed along the Gaza-Israel border.

1. this has the makings for an escalation in violance
armed Palesinian forces on one side of the border, armed Israeli forces on the other side - - what are the chances that they start shooting at each other either purposely or mistakenly?

2. Cats and dogs.
Let me get this straight:

"JERUSALEM (CNN) -- In a move to stop rocket and mortar attacks on Israel, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered a two-phase deployment of security forces along the border with Israel, a statement from his office said Friday."

Is he serious? Is this what he really wants to do?

This will go one of two ways:

1. He wants to have troops in place for a surprise attack.

2. He wants to show that Israel is at fault for the Palestinian situation.

3. Any similarity here?
1. The US president ordered the United States military to take preventative action against Iraq.

2. The Palestinian president ordered the Palestinian police, preventative security and the Intelligence units to spread inside the cities and refugee camps in the Gaza Strip to maintain order and protect the interests of the population.

Monkey see, monkey do?
