High Court Justice Eliahu Mazza on Friday issued an interim order barring the Israel Defense Forces from demolishing homes in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. The injunction bars the IDF from demolishing homes outside of regular combat activity.
A hearing on the matter was scheduled for Sunday at 8:30 A.M.
The IDF carried out a mass demolition of buildings in Rafah refugee camp over the weekend, destroying as many as 88 homes, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) said Saturday.
The injunction was issued after Palestinian residents of the town petitioned the High Court against GOC Southern Command, saying the IDF planned to demolish houses in order to widen the Philadelphi Route which demarcates the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
