Israeli human rights group slams Hebron settlers
By Haaretz Staff and AP

B'Tselem (The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories) released a report yesterday citing harassment by Jewish settlers for the exodus of some 400 Palestinians from the center of Hebron over the past three years.

"Settler violence and the lack of law enforcement on settlers, the ongoing curfew and severe restrictions on movement in the area that once was the commercial center of Hebron, and violence against Palestinians by members of the security forces have caused Palestinian families to pack up and leave the area," the report charges.

About 2,000 merchants have closed businesses in the downtown sector in the same period, according to the B'Tselem report, entitled "Settlements Cause Mass Departure of Palestinians."

2. do they teach logic & "cause/effect" in schools there?
500 fanatics effectively besiege and harass 130,000 people with full state support and protection, the army keeps people under curfew in addition to giving full reign to settler abuse, they violate ceasefires at will to carry out raids and assassinations...
...then it turns out that there's somebody not happy about all this. Could anybody see that one coming?

3. The best part is...
when they put the place on lockdown every year for Passover and let the Settlers break out all the windows and shoot at the houses the Palestinians live in and sing songs about the Tomb of the Patriarch. Israel pays for some seriously odd indulgences apparently in the name of "security".

4. I've heard of a couple strange things
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 06:28 PM by Aidoneus
one notable TV scene was something like a bunch of settlers running around breaking shit, chanting "thank G-d for the curfew".

15. The difference is...
Yr trying to make out that the posters comments about what these settlers actually do are the same as blatantly anti-semitic comments which aren't done by the settlers....

17. retreat to blood libel
when all else fails and you can see with your own eyes, a group of Kach reactionaries that are Israel's equivalent to the Klu Klux Klan acting in the way they always do resort to demeaning anti-semitism to nothing.

6. In answer to your question in your subject line...
I know several Israelis, all of whom have great skill at mathematics. I assume that they do teach cause and affect. Whether they apply it to the situation is another story entirely.

7. Just for your information...
Many Israelis feel deep hatred towards the settlers for their actions and for the very fact they stick themselves in these areas, putting our soldiers in danger when many of them never even get recruited.

And many Israelis (Including myself) find them to be a pain in Israel's arse. :)

8. I appreciate that statement
but with Israel being a democracy and all - Why do the hatemongerers get reelected, the ones that provide incentives to the settlements, the ones doing the antagonizing?

Apparently the opposition is marginal or some adjustment in policies would eventually emerge.

9. I have to point out in his defense
the George Bush is pResident of the USA.
The deal is rigged, to some degree, in both places.

10. special interests..
not all of them are Israeli special interests either, Americans personally bankroll both the rejectionist campaigns and the settlements themselves especially in Jerusalem where they personally buy property.

12. What?
I've read a few of your posts and more often than not your replies or responses don't have anything to do with the discussion.

Help me understand you.

I'm not the only one who finds there's a disconnection between the discussion and what Rini posts in reply. :)

13. Ask that of 13 Israeli Arabs...
Do some research on the status of Palestinians who remained in Israel after 1948...

Come back and give us a report...
