Arab FMs discuss Mideast, agree to fund PA for next 6 months

TUNIS - Arab foreign ministers sought Saturday to find a way to revive an Arab peace initiative to Israel, despite Syrian opposition because of the assassination of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin last Monday.

The ministers met in a morning session and then broke up, after which Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa was to speak to reporters. But an announcement said the press conference was delayed for couple of hours because of an unspecified "emergency meeting."

In Saturday's meeting, the ministers agreed to provide the Palestinian Authority with funding for the next six months, the Algerian foreign minister said.

The Palestinian ambassador, Mohammed Sobeih, told The Associated Press that $50 million per month was needed in the next six months to fund the Palestinian Authority and pay for its employees.
