Lost in the mist
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 03:58 AM by La_Serpiente
Lost in the mist

Ever since Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced his dramatic initiative for a unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the steps he is taking to implement his plan have been clouded in mist.

Key government officials, who are supposed to be involved in the formulation and execution of the plan, are unaware of its objectives and principal components: The General Staff is in the dark with regard to Sharon's intentions; the cabinet is complaining about being left out of the decision-making process; the Palestinian Authority is running into a wall of refusal when it asks to be a partner to the plan's implementation; and the U.S. administration, before which Sharon supposedly reveals the secrets of his heart, is also asking for more and more clarifications.

The prime minister needs a certain degree of vagueness to guide his daring proposal to safe shores: He has to maneuver between conflicting interests and opposing expectations that come to the fore both in the domestic Israeli arena and in the international theater.

Lost in the mist

I don't agree with the sentiment that what Sharon is doing is really extreme. It is a step in the right direction, but more still needs to be done.

1. And yet the basic rationale is sound:
Once the Peace Fence is complete, these thugs will have only each other to kill. Ya gotta love it.

3. YES, these THUGS
The THUGS in Hamas are making life miserable for the Palestinian people.

The THUGS in the PA are making life miserable for the Palestinian people.

But then again, they might not be THUGS in your estimation.

9. No
However the comparison was between Hamas and the IDF. For whatever reason, known only to yourself, you decided to change the subject to Sharon.

I prefer the growth of the Shinui party and a coalition with the Labor party.

Which Palestinian leader do you prefer? Do you support Arafat?

12. I can explain it
You said 'these thugs will only have each other to kill' or words to that effect. If this were to indicate that only the terrorist groups were the thugs, then that would require that those members be the only ones dying.

Since we know they're not the only Palestinians dying, we can infer from your statement that it is all Palestinians who may die from the fighting who are thugs.

die.

17. Actually.....
I dont think thats all you need to know.

I suspect Mr.Sagle is frustrated over the endless killing of innocent
israelis and certainly does not wish any harm to any civilians.
But he also sees a difference between an Israeli defensive action that has casualities and the direct butching of children by palestinian terrorists bent on indiscriminate murder. Mr. Sagle, as
he has clearly shown thru his posts, does not see moral equivalence
between the two.

(pssst....how's that Jimbo?)

18. That's the problem
Killing an innocent Palestinian (it's not as though they all are collateral damage, plenty of evidence where they were intentionally killed, IDF is not the most moral army on earth sorry) is MORALLY EQUIVALENT to killing an innocent Israeli, at least in my book. That's the difference. You don't feel Palestinians are equally human as Israelis, based on such reasoning...

You chose your words poorly. I explained quite clearly how they are subject to misinterpretation. Did you consider what I wrote, or just automatically accuse me of twisting your words?

And to "maneuver between conflicting interests". It may not be brilliant, but it's the pragmatic way.
