Israel ends Arab worker 'marking'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3548601.stm

<Israeli security officials have been told to stop making Arab construction workers at the Knesset wear distinctive identifying marks on their hard hats.
Israeli parliamentary speaker Reuven Rivlin, ordered an end to the controversial policy.

The Arab builders had been made to wear helmets with red crosses on top so they were identifiable to marksmen guarding parliament, the daily Maariv reported.

The practice outraged local politicians and human rights groups.>

The Israelis of all people should have known how wrong this was.

I clearly remember a piece several months about how they tattoo, with a pen, ID numbers on Palestinians they seize in the occupied territories. My Tragic Irony meter exploded.. What I don't clearly recall is whether that piece was just mentioning the practice or mentioning the cessation of it.

The irony of these racist practices is astounding sometimes..

4. Let me refresh your memory
Writing numbers with a felt pen on the hands of the prisoners was forbidden as soon as it came to the attention of the Knesset.

Both practices have been forbidden. I still see the numbers tattooed on the arms of concentration camp survivors, however. Some have had the tattoos removed, others have not.
