Eight wounded in anti-wall protests
Eight wounded in anti-wall protests
Monday 08 March 2004

Eight people, including five Palestinians, have been wounded in clashes with the army in two protests against Israel's construction of a West Bank barrier.

One man was moderately wounded on Monday when occupation troops fired a tear gas canister into a crowd of some 300 protestors near the West Bank village of Beit Duqqu, just west of the town of Ram Allah, Palestinian medics and Israeli security sources said.

Medics said the canister hit him in the eye. Border police used tear gas and stun grenades to break up the protest after demonstrators, backed by a group of foreign peace activists, tried to prevent excavators from working on the barrier, an AFP correspondent witnessed.

Another four people were lightly wounded during a protest in the nearby village of Beit Liqqiya where several hundred people gathered near the barrier construction site, medics and witnesses said.

One man was lightly wounded after being hit by live fire in the
leg and another three were slightly hurt by rubber bullets fired by troops to break up the demo, medics said.

1. All in all, light casualties - good, professional military policing.

2. Indeed
A peaceful protest would be newsworthy.

4. I doubt that. She got right in the middle of a military operation.
Really dumb, and a really harsh penalty. But scarcely coldblooded murder.

10. well maybe you have a point
If Rachel Corrie was "really dumb" in any way, it was in being dumb to assume that the Israeli Army would spare her from being murdered.

12. I just don't see it as murder. Intruding on an ongoing demolition is
reckless. A death resulting therefrom is scarcely classifiable as murder, IMO.

14. I suspect it was justifiiable. There were tunnels under homs in the area.
The particular home being demolished stood a high chance of being one of them - high enough, I believe, to neutralize any charge of "collective reprisal."

19. What was Dr. Samir Nasrallah's crime?
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 12:55 PM by Aidoneus
I mean, of course pharmacists are a serious threat to the demographic future of the region, but do you have something tangible in mind? I believe it was recently destroyed anyway; no tunnels found, of course. So what pathetic excuse can you come up with to justify it now?

9. Peaceful protests have been tried
The result was murders of the peace activists involved.

Have any other suggestions?

11. Got any links for that? Because my impression is that peaceful protest is
almost never resorted to.
