Israel vows to complete West Bank barrier
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 01:03 PM by Resistance
ABC News

Israel is vowing to complete the building of its West Bank barrier despite being condemned for its actions at the World Court this week.

The Palestinians are challenging the legality of the barrier at the World Court in the Hague this week, saying Israel is conducting a land-grab to deny them a viable state.

Israel stayed away from the three-day hearings, disputing the court's right to rule on the case.

"When we have settled the land, all the Arabs will be able to do about it will be to scurry around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle." Raphael Eitan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces, New York Times, 14 April 1983.

7. The wall in Warsaw
was built to keep people in. The wall in Israel is being built to keep people out. The Palestinians can still go anywhere else they want to go. Besides, I thought Israel was so bad nobody would want to go there anyway...

Israel is building this wall to keep non-citizens out of its soverign territory. Whether the route of the fence is fair or not can be debated, but the idea of a country defending it's borders from infiltration by non-citizens cannot be disputed. The US has fences along the Mexican border, but nobody accuses us of creating a ghetto for the Mexicans. They are still free to go about their business, just not to illegally enter our country. The ghetto wall in Warsaw completely surrounded its victims and prevented them from going anywhere. The wall in Israel only keeps the Palestinians out of a very small part of the world.

8. nobody is debating the right to build a wall
the point is that Israel is doing this to steal more land. Haven't they stolen enough already? Build the wall on their own property and nobody would complain.

9. Name some land Israel stole
Go ahead. We'll wait. (To be fair and not just promoting mindless blather, don't include land they bought or land they were assigned during peace treaties or land they're holding in accordance with UN wishes)

10. Are you actually serious?
The GOI admitted recently that Israeli settlers were stealing Palestinian land and this is done in accord with Israeli state policy (affirmed by the Knesset).

This is one example from thousands, if not hundreds of thousands.

12. Aye
In case anybody serious wants the references to this single example, here is a quote from a Knesset resolution, pushed through by Likud:
"The Knesset decides that the right of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel is a national, historic, eternal right that cannot be questioned .. the Knesset strengthens the hands of the settlers in Yesha and calls on the government to continue developing the settlements" 1
For the admission of stealing land:
"In response to a Peace Now petition presented at the Jerusalem District Court, the civil administration Wednesday affirmed that many West Bank outposts were built on land belonging to Palestinians, Israel Radio reported.

Peace Now claims that of 102 illegal outposts exist to date, 12 were connected to infrastructures in 2003, 8 have had access roads built by the state, and permanent housing has been constructed in 15.

The Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza Strip condemned Peace Now's statement, and said everything was done in co-ordinance with the proper authorities" 2
