Democrats Make Pitch To New York Jews
cut

With New York emerging as a key battleground in next week's Super Tuesday presidential primaries, supporters of the top two Democratic contenders are stepping up Jewish outreach efforts here.

Assemblyman Ryan Karben of Rockland County and G. Oliver Koppel, a former state attorney general currently serving on the City Council, extolled Edwards' record on the Middle East, citing his presence in Jerusalem during the Sbarro's pizzeria bombing in August 2001.

"That kind of personal experience with the challenges facing the Israeli people would strengthen his resolve to stand by as they fight against terror," said Karben, who joined the Edwards campaign after Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman dropped out of the race last month.

There were indications that both sides were concerned about possible gaffes that could dog their campaign, as in the case of fellow Democrat Howard Dean. The former Vermont governor's call for an "even-handed" U.S. policy in dealing with the Israel-Palestinian crisis led to months of criticism at the height of his campaign. Dean, the early frontrunner in the Democratic field, pulled out of the race two weeks ago after failing to win any primaries.

Kerry has come under similar attack from some pro-Israel activists because of his suggestion last year that former Secretary of State James Baker or former President Jimmy Carter might make good Middle East envoys.

The article raises concerns about Kerry. Carter and Baker would be far too moderate. Kerry must not repeat Dean's mistake of calling for an "even-handed" approach. Edward's record is scant. Sharpton and Kucinich are of no consequence.

1. Kerry only suggested James Baker because Daniel Pipes is busy

with his bush appointment to the Peace Institute.

Kerry stands solidly behind the long-standing policy of unconditional support for whatever the Israeli government wants to do to whomever it wishes to do it, and the US will pay for it, as long as they will guard America's oil resources in the region.

4. Simply put
America must support Israel. There should be no moral equivalency. Our policy has been one of steadfast support for decades.

5. Five decades.
And it won't matter who attacks from without if it crumbles from religious fundamentalism within.

8. So moderation is not allowed ?
What does America even mean to you aside from its function in backing up Israel ? How is it that the greatest representative democracy in history can be judged simply on the ardency of its feelings for Israel ?

MY country, for which our forefathers died, is not some kind of pawn to be used for anyone else's interests.

6. It's disgusting the way these articles always seem to think...
that Jews will vote for the most pro-Israel candidate.

As for "too moderate"...

In a war between two parties committing atrocities and violating human rights, objectivity and even-handedness is exactly what is needed.

7. Realistically

this isn't about who'll get the most Jewish votes. It's about energizing Jewish voters to get more active when cynicism is rampant due to a feeling that neither party gives a damn about Jews.

Jews in the US have a choice between:
Republicans with a candidate...
whose grandfather was a banker for the Nazi party
whose father had Nazi and Arrow Cross war criminals on his campaign staff
whose father's Secretary of State said "Fuck the Jews. They don't vote for us anyway."
who wants to turn the US into a Christian Nation with non-Christians given less rights

Democrats with a candidate...
who wants to appoint the "Fuck the Jews" former Secretary of State as a Middle East envoy.
who figures that Jews will vote for him no matter what because the alternative is so catastrophically dangerous.

Like I said. It's an attempt to energize support and get out the vote. The worry this Fall isn't that Jews won't vote overwhelmingly against Bush. The worry is that Jewish voters reply to all the "a pox on both your houses" moral equivalency treatment of Israel and Palestinian terrorists with a vote of "a pox on both your houses" to the two parties who take their votes as a given no matter what they do to suck up to the Saudis.

And don't think that Republican strategists aren't happily trying to make it happen just that way.

9. you are correct that neither party gives a damn about Jews

Both parties give unconditional billions of damns that there's a weapons dump in the Levant to guard America's oil in the region.

Greed is very non-sectarian.
