Saudis: No Jews Welcome
http://cbs2.com/topstories/topstories_story_057202251.html

Rep. Anthony Weiner, a frequent critic of United States policy toward Saudi Arabia, said Thursday that the Middle East country's new visa policy outlined on a tourist Web site should be quickly condemned by American officials.

The Web site, promoting a new Saudi program to offer tourist visas to encourage more foreign visitors, lists four groups not entitled to tourist visas, including "Jewish People."

The Saudi government has traditionally only issued travel visas for employment, Hajj pilgrimages, and other visits with official sanction.

In addition to Jews, the Web site by the Supreme Commission for Tourism also says it will refuse visas to anyone with an Israeli passport or a passport that has an Israeli stamp.

Everyone who enters the Kingdom should have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity and the appropriate visa.

Unless you are a visitor from a GCC country or in transit, all other nationalities require a visa to enter the Kingdom. Visas can be for business, tourist, transit, residency, family, Hajj, or conference attendance.

Visas can be obtained from the visa department in the Saudi Embassy of the visitor's home country or from Saudi Consulates available in all main cities around the world.

The cost of a visa is generally 200 Saudi Riyals however visitors should ensure that they check with the Saudi Embassy or Consulate.

Visas will not be issued for the following groups of people:

*An Israeli passport holder or a passport that has an Israeli arrival/departure stamp.

*Those who don't abide by the Saudi traditions concerning appearance and behaviors.

*Those under the influence of alcohol will not be permitted into the Kingdom.

*There are certain regulations for pilgrims and you should contact the consulate for more information.

*Jewish People

Important Instructions:

If a woman is arriving in the Kingdom alone, the sponsor or her husband must receive her at the airport.
Every woman must have confirmed accommodation for the duration of her stay in the Kingdom.
A woman is not allowed to drive a car and can therefore only travel by car if she is accompanied by her husband, a male relative, or a driver.
All visitors to the Kingdom must have a return ticket.
Pilgrims must also have all valid documentation and a passport that is valid for 6 months.

Barring Jews or anyone with an Israeli visa in their passport from entry has been a common practice for decades in the Arab world. The US State Department has a program to issue a second Passport for people who travel in both Israel and Arab states so they can keep the Israeli entry and exit stamps in a separate passport that doesn't have to be shown at Passport Control in Arab countries. Tour companies doing multi-nation tours of the Middle East schedule Israel last so the Israeli stamps won't block entry to the other nations.

Face it, if you want to travel freely in the Arab world, your passport also has to be as judenrein as Jordan and Saudi Arabia keep their countries.

sounds like this would make a great story on Datline NBC...

"Our unmarried Jewish reporter wearing a halter top and a miniskirt enters the Saudi embassy for a tourist visa... what will the hidden cameras reveal? Stay tuned to Dateline"

Edited for punctuation. Do I always forget the question marks

13. Anti-semtism in Saudi Arabia. I'm shocked. Shocked, I say!
Guess what folks. There really are Anti-Semites out there. And they ARE nasty, brutish bigots. And some of them have real wealth and real power and happily wield both.

You can get a lot of press stories slanted with a few billion dollars and you can buy a lot of votes with control of the largest oil reserves on the planet. Perhaps looking at who these bigots support might be in order and don't stop with the Bush family. It sure doesn't stop there.

19. That's unquestionably true...
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 09:57 AM by Darranar
The relationship between the Saudi regime and US oil corporations corrupts both sides of politics, not just Bush and the GOP...

They also pay off a number of terrorists to avoid strikes, and, as is the case with almost every totalitarian Middle Eastern regime, I/P is exploited as a useful distraction for the dissident masses.

20. Saudi Arabia makes an excellent case for alternative energy
Why should we pay off the House of Saud? So they can pay off Osama? So they can do crap like this an expect nothing will be done about it?

We need to liberate ourselves from the House of Saud in order for the Arabians to liberate themselves.

They pay off terrorists to avoid certain strikes and pay terrorists when they perform other strikes. And they're openly anti-Semitic. Hmmm.

Kind of makes you think that maybe they have something to do with directing international terrorism or funding the recent growth in anti-Semitism worldwide...

Nah. Can't be. Bush told us that they're not part of the "Axis of Evil". The Bush family wouldn't lie to us or put Saudi interest ahead of our own. Or Israel's (since we're told SO often that Bush is a friend of Israel)

22. Must be a coincidence
Osama bin-Laden's biggest demand in 2001 when a mostly Saudi terrorist group destroyed the WTC was for the US to remove it's infidel troops and military bases from the holy soil of Saudi Arabia.

Bush's response to this terrorist blackmail was to do exactly what bin-Laden wanted and he removed our troops and bases from Saudi Arabia.

Which, come to think of it, is a pretty stupid thing to do when those bases were built to support invading Iraq and you're in the middle of making plans to invade Iraq...

Nah. I'm sure it's a coincidence. The Bush family wouldn't lie to us or put Saudi interest ahead of our own.

15. Penis inspection at passport control stations
Wouldn't help. Moslems and Jews both traditionally circumcise.

Whether the Jewish ritual of circumcising at about a week old versus the Moslem ritual of circumcising as part of the adulthood rituals at age 13 was preferable was one of the most frequent discussion points between Begin and Sadat at Camp David when they needed a break from negotiating the peace treaty. They concluded that both had enough advantages and disadvantages that they roughly balanced out. Just thought I'd mention it in case anybody wondered what future Nobel Peace laureates talk about at international summits during the breaks...

As for me, I'm pretty happy that my Bar Mitzvah didn't involve sharp objects near my genitals...

Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 08:04 AM by JasonDeter
every time I buy gasoline to think a penny of my money is going to the Saudi regime! I hate that bush* whom I can't stand would allow any Saudi official to just call and say, "I'm comming into town and I will see you" and bush* says, "Yes sir." Its sickening that we even do business with the Saudi government! We should apologize to South African Government for holding it accountable for its apartheid policies but we do not hold Saudi Arabia officials accountable for their racist bigoted misogynistic actions. What a disgusting revelation regarding the Saudi government.

23. The irony of the Saudi's telethon
for the Palestinians was unbelievable. The Palestinians in the West Bank have a longer life span, a higher literacy rate, especially for women, a lower infant mortality rate, and many other indicators of a better quality of life than the Saudis do. If you want to find a country with low quality of life indicators look for one without equality for women.

26. I don't see why not
There's nothing on that list that says I can't criticize their British appointed monarchy.

Let's look it over again to be sure:

Visas will not be issued for the following groups of people:
*An Israeli passport holder or a passport that has an Israeli arrival/departure stamp.
Safe there. My current US passport doesn't have an Israeli stamp

*Those who don't abide by the Saudi traditions concerning appearance and behaviors.
No problem. I'm not a woman so the resrictions aren't TOO bad. And I can live with it for the chance to visit ArabiaLand

*Those under the influence of alcohol will not be permitted into the Kingdom.
OK. I can live without a drink for the duration of my visit. I hear they have great orange juice.

*There are certain regulations for pilgrims and you should contact the consulate for more information.
I'm Jewish so I wouldn't be going on pilgrimage anyway!

*Jewish People
Whoops!
