Palestinian villagers attacked as wall construction continues
The Palestine Monitor

Seven Palestinian villagers were injured this morning when Israeli troops opened fire on them in the fields outside Beit Seera, west of Ramallah.

At 8.30 this morning, the villagers went to their fields to try and stop Israeli bulldozers from uprooting trees and confiscating land for the construction of the Separation Wall. 500 Palestinians were confronted by over 100 soldiers, 10 military jeeps and several bulldozers.

1. How long will it take for that wall to get to Iraq?

Oh, that's natural growth of settlements. Sorry, I get so confused about the multipart strategy of achieving Greater Israel.

7. Their protest was not acceptable
Surely we all believe in non-violent resistance, in the tradition of Martin Luther King and Joe Lieberman.

8. well, not exactly.
The Palestinians must resist non-violently.

Israel can continue to bombs away on Palestinian homes! (in the tradition of Joe Lieberman)

17. Joe Lieberman has not changed
He is a marvelous advocate for civil rights. Also, there is no need to give old arguements new life.

21. No need to be sorry, there was no misunderstanding
and I took no offense. Just going with the flow of it,
so to speak. This is not a good learning venue, too many
straight men, and backhanded humor is little appreciated.
Examples of this litter the threads here. In fact, I suppose
that is how this little sub-thread got started.

One might almost think that the fate of nations hangs in
the balance as we debate the issues here, rather than
just the fate of a few egos.

22. Oh, my
Surely you know the source is not reliable. Another for you..

Witnesses in the West Bank village of Biddo said Israeli forces opened fire in a confrontation with stone-throwers, killing two Palestinians.

Hundreds of Palestinians took part in the protest over the start of construction of a section of the barrier at Biddo, and the demonstrations spread to two nearby villages.

Some of the protesters lay in front of Israeli bulldozers preparing the ground for the barrier, which is being built through villagers' fields.

"It was a very violent confrontation and six security personnel were injured," a military source said. "To the best of our knowledge our forces responded only with tear gas and rubber bullets. We are investigating the reported fatalities."

23. Thanks...
for the additional information.

Do you support attacking stone-throwers, even if it is possible that the result will be dead Palestinians (as in this case)?

It appears Israeli forces used only rubber bullets and tear gas.

25. You didn't answer the question...
Two Palestinians were killed in this incident, and if the Israeli soldiers used live bullets that is totally unjustified. If they did not, it is a little less so.

from this distance. A violent protest by a large number of unruly people throwing stones may indeed pose danger to Israeli soldiers. This could make eliminations necessary, though unfortunate.
