The Ha'aretz Hooligans
Ha'aretz is at it again, playing its favorite game, "Hebron Bashing." ...It seems that Landau set out to immediately prove his point. And what better way than by viciously attacking Hebron"s Jewish community? ...let's start with a quote from a former TIPH observer from Norway, interviewed in an Oslo suburban newspaper, Nordstrands Blad, on April 5, 2000. The article begins, "Hebron has always been a Palestinian city with a small Jewish population." When asked about Palestinian violence, the observer, Yngvil Mortensen, said, "Would you have liked to be checked three times a day by foreign soldiers? Or that your city is occupied by a foreign power? …If we compare with the German occupation of Norway during the 2nd World War, we called the sabotage and attacks on Germans resistance fighting."

There you have it: A TIPH observer comparing the Jews to Nazis and the Palestinians to resistance fighters...They care not what happens to the Jews...
The Arabs have never been bashful about asserting what they view as their legitimate rights to Hebron and its holy sites....Despite these facts... Hebron's Jews are accused of practicing ethnic cleansing – not the Arabs!

The Ha'aretz TIPH-supportive, anti-Hebron editorial demands: "The government must reexamine its forgiving policies toward the extremist settlers in Hebron." These "forgiving policies" include over 100 criminal files opened by the police last year...We fully agree with the editorial position that the Defense Minister must "order the properties returned to their lawful owners." The "properties" mentioned in the editorial refer to the former 'Arab market', which presently houses young Jewish families. This market, which 'belongs' to the State Custodian for Abandoned Property, was built on Jewish-owned land, and rightfully belongs to the Jews in Hebron....

the Hebron Jewish community demands that these anti-Israel, Arab-biased foreigners be removed from Hebron immediately...We call on the Ha'aretz Hooligans to open their eyes, examine the facts as they really are, not as they imagine them, and stop aiding and abetting the enemies of the State of Israel, who are attacking and murdering its loyal, patriotic citizens.

2. They are a hoot! It's a shining tribute to classic incoherent journalism

Too bad they won't let us mention any Palestinian sites. There are a couple that could give INN a run for their money, balance things out a little ;)

6. I got news!
DU is all over the web. If I specified for what precise reason, this post would be deleted, but I bet if you think really hard, you'll be able to figure out why it's rep precedes it.

8. I wouldn't know
However, there are individual statements about bad experiences with DU all over the net, as I said. Just google DU.

Obviously, pro-Israel sites in Israel also know about what goes on here and I receive daily updates via email; some of which mention what you are here.

11. well you just described me
but this was your quote;

some of which mention what you are here

You didn't say,"some of which mention what WE are here." You used the word "you",which obviously means someone other than yourself. So you tell me,what did you mean by "what YOU are here"?

I understand if you're afraid to say.I would be too if I were you.

13. DU is known for many things
some true, some not.People believe what they already believe.I see criticism of Israel that some overly sensitive people take as hatred.

I could just as easily say that there's virulent hatred for Palestinians here. One poster believes Arabs have their own smell. But I don't think the charge of virulent hatred towards the Pals is any more true than what you suggest is the case towards Israel.

Many here criticise Bush and our own government.By your logic (or the logic of those who seem to have your ear) there is virulent hatred for America here.

If some are incapable of seperating criticism of a country's government from criticism of a country's people that is thier problem to work out.

14. DU is known for many things.
You are correct.

It's so much easier to criticize my own government.

You finished with "If some are incapable of seperating criticism of a country's government from criticism of a country's people that is thier problem to work out." If only that was true, but it's not.

The populations of hated countries often bear the brunt of their governments' policies.

I have an emotional tie to Israel; but the US is my country.

To both countries: Change them or lose them.

However, so many powerful people can hurt Israel and I don't have the same worry for Superpower USA.

But, if you're still around:

Israel is the most powerful nation in the Middle East, by a very long way.

(As reported by those well known anti-Israel propagandists JTA and Ma'ariv newspaper)

But you can maintain the "Little Israel" fantasies if you like.

On another topic: who are you supporting for president now?

As I said in GD: 2004 several times, I hoped Dean would win the nomination. ;-)

Or do you mean all over the Israel and Palestinian advocates part of the web? Anyway, if this is true, I say let them come here and voice their opinions. This is a small board. If DU's IP board truly is famous we could use some more blood here.

15. Funny Thing...
Taking your advice I googled for 'Democratic Underground' + Israel. One of the first entries was a page published by an ex-DUer who was claiming that they were unceremoniously banned for Anti-Jewish, Anti-Israel comments. They claimed that DU was too Pro Israel....

Falls under the category of 'can't please all the people'....

19. Amusingly
I read a comment on LGF the other day which stated that Israelis might pay attention to Yediot Aharonot, Ma'ariv etc, but "Jews listen to Arutz 7".

The same poster then said that after a Palestinian is killed the Hebrew media is like the "Arab media", constantly repeating the incident over and over and decrying the Israeli government for murder.

Oh, and Ha'aretz is ultra-left, Yediot is left, Ma'ariv is center-left....

I honestly hope these aren't going to eventually turn out to be the legitimate voices of Israel, though if U.S. "supporters" have their way, they might.

:dunce:
