Boim: Is Palestinian terror caused by a genetic defect?
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/397851.html

<snip>

"Deputy Defense Minister Ze'ev Boim, addressing the issue of why much of local, regional and world terrorism is directed by extremist Muslims, asked Tuesday, "What is it about Islam as a whole and the Palestinians in particular? Is it some form of cultural deprivation? Is it some genetic defect. There is something that defies explanation in this continued murderousness."

Boim was speaking at a memorial ceremony for a the victims of a bus attack on the Coastal Highway 26 years ago.

MK Jamal Zahalka (Balad) said in response that "whoever says that Palestinian behavior is caused by a genetic defect has a brain defect himself and the values of a racist fascist."

1. What a stupid comment
Parts of his question are fair to ask. But genetic defect? Oy.

22. What parts were fair to ask?
This is his question minus the specific comment about genetic defects:

"What is it about Islam as a whole and the Palestinians in particular? Is it some form of cultural deprivation? There is something that defies explanation in this continued murderousness."

As far as I'm concerned none of that is fair to ask and the entire comment is incredibly bigoted and disgusting, because it singles out one religion and one group of people in a pretence that only they are prone to violence...

Anyone who is horrified by anti-Semitic sentiments along the same lines should be just as horrified by this creep's foul comments...

Violet...

Slur on Palestinians at terror victims’ memorial ignites political firestorm

<snip>

"At a memorial service marking the 26th anniversary of the terror attack on a passenger bus on Israel’s coastal highway, in which 37 Israelis were killed, Deputy Minister of Defense, Ze’ev Boim (Likud), said, “What’s wrong with Islam? What’s wrong with the Palestinians in particular that drives them to commit such horrific crimes? Is it a genetic flaw, a lack of culture or something beyond explanation?”

Boim’s remarks caused a row among MKs that cut across the usual left-right divide. Tzvi Hendel (National Union) disagreed with the deputy minister, “Hatred stems from education and incitement. I know many Arabs who are good people.”. MK Ran Cohen (Meretz) said Boim’s statement “is of the lowest kind and must be condemned. I hope he wasn’t referring to Sephardic Jews as well”. MK Yossi Sarid (Meretz) said in response to Boim’s remark regarding a genetic flaw, “It is Boim’s genetics that should be examined”.

Boim was supported by fellow Likud member Yehiel Hazan who told Maariv Online, “He is 100% right, in view of the fact that Arabs have been massacring Jews for decades. Arabs shouldn’t be trusted even after 40 years in the grave. It is engraved in them, and that’s exactly the meaning of the term ‘never turn your back to an Arab because he’ll stab you.'

5. The whole thing is choice.
Likud MK Yehiel Hazan supported Boim's
statements.

"What Ze'ev Boim said, it hasn't been
researched, but according to my experience this
is true. I think he is correct. It is well-known
that Arabs have been slaughtering and
murdering Jews for more than a generation,"
Hazan said.

"I think this it is in their blood. It is something
genetic. I have not researched this, but there is
no other way to explain this," Hazan added.
"Don't believe an Arab, even one who has been
in the grave for 40 years."

6. yes, I wondered what ghosts are plaguing Mr. Hazan..

I'm sure there's quite a story behind those vexing apparitions.

And a prime entrepreneurial opportunity for the wily Israeli scientist who's first to hit the market with a good servant quality GM Arab. Good help is so hard to find.

10. And what's that
accusation leveled against Jews for centuries, the justification for so many pogroms and so much persecution and hatred and oppression against them, and for the ultimate persecution, the Holocaust? Something about "blood" libel?

So what's the difference, please tell me. I guess neither side has a lock on racism. How terribly, terribly sad and depressing.

19. There is no difference, none at all.
Alike as peas in a pod they are.
Yammering ignorant violent halfwits.
That was the point.
It's only depressing because they are calling the shots.
We should do better.

9. LOL!
Ooohhh, not that's not very nice!!!

I wonder what the reaction in Israel would be if it were an Arab politician speaking those same words in regards to Israelis, asking if they had a "genetic defect"?

One would think that Jews, of all people, who have heard that kind of inhuman trash-blather whipped up against them for centuries, and who have for centuries suffered the horrible consequences of that exact thinking and blanket ignorant racist bigotry being leveled and whipped up against them wherever they've settled, would be especially loath to make or support such comments.

And someone needs to remind the person spouting off about "genetic defects" in Arabs that Jews and Arabs are, in fact, genetically linked.

Not many nations but 'a' great nation. Tiny little Israel against 1.5 billion Arabs. I have great respect for Israel.

Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 08:40 PM by _Jumper_
Are you insinuating that Jews are some sort of God sponsored "race" that is indeed superior to the Arabs?

Do you think that Jews and Palestinians are not virtually identical genetically?

1.5 billion Arabs? Where?

Tiny little Israel? Israel has the backing of the world's only superpower. This causes me to worry about Israel. If it does not make peace, what will it do when the USA is eclipsed by China or another country? The AIPAC model only works in one country.

24. "Tiny little Israel"
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 05:46 PM by tinnypriv

Which just happens to overwhelm everyone else in the region in military force.

Makes sense. :eyes:

By the way - that fact (and it is a fact) is from two anti-semitic sources:

1. The IDF's own analysts.
2. The most respected strategic military think-tank in Israel (Jaffe Centre for Strategic Studies).

Also, you should try replacing the word 'Israel' with 'x' (where 'x' is any nation on Earth). It's an interesting experiment in identifying totalitarian-style ultra-nationalism.

16. On Rachel Corrie
"There have been times when I have been quiet because I felt there were others who knew more. There are some who would like to quiet me now and who would like to quiet the power of Rachel's message, too. I am no longer intimidated by experts and critics and certainly not by the name-callers. After all, my daughter stood in front of a bulldozer in order to protect the Palestinian home of a family with three young children. I believe that I can speak out and that I have a responsibility as a mother to speak out and to demand that the experts, the policymakers, Congress, and the White House reflect our values-our beliefs in the sanctity of each life, in the equality of each human being, and in justice and the rule of law."

from both sides. I really wonder if there will ever truly be peace in that region, considering that both sides are making statements like that about the other.
