Israel to boycott barrier hearing
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/02/12/israel.barrier/

<snip>

"Israel will boycott a hearing before the International Court of Justice in the Netherlands regarding the legality of its West Bank barrier, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's office said Thursday."

<snip>

"The court scheduled a hearing for February 23 after a Palestinian complaint against the barrier was referred to it by the United Nations General Assembly.

The prime minister's office said a ministerial committee decided to accept the recommendations of advisers and not attend.

"The ministerial committee, headed by the prime minister, Ariel Sharon, decided that there was enough in the declaration that Israel delivered on January 30 which states that the court does not have the jurisdiction to hear the issue of the terror-prevention fence, which is Israel's basic right to defend itself," said a statement issued by Sharon's office."

2. LOL
Sharon will go when the Palestinians decide to try the path of peace. Israel tried other leaders and the Palestinians rejected that peace.

3. Sharon is an abject failure...
Sharon will go before there's any peaceful resolution, for the abundantly obvious reason that he's an obstacle to peace. The only thing Sharon knows is heavy-handed force and violence, and it hasn't worked. Both Arafat and Sharon have to go and make way for leaders who are genuinelly interested in peace....

btw, the responsibility for Sharon remaining in power is NOT with the Palestinian people. It lies fair and square with those Israelis who voted for his party. And Sharon could go anytime that he's indicted on corruption charges. Calling for the Palestinian people to try the path of peace isn't worth anything if it translates as calling for the Palestinians to roll over and submit without resistance to an illegal occupation, and praising Israel for being such a benevolent master. Responsibility for a peaceful resolution to the conflict lies with both sides, and while the mindset exists amongst leaders on both sides that all responsibility is on the other side, both Palestinians and Israelis will continue to die needlessly....

Violet...

4. Which leaders?
Edited on Fri Feb-13-04 02:47 PM by tinnypriv

Shamir, a murderous terrorist?

Ben-Gurion, a "transferist"?

Grandma Golda, Miss "There Are No Palestinians"?

Barak, the guy who calls on Sharon to hit the Pals harder in "Defensive Shield"?

"Break Their Bones" Rabin?

BEGIN? (please god no)

The Peres and Netenyahoo combo?

That leaves Eshkol. Nice one. I guess you could make an argument he was pretty dovish in some respects, though you're surely not talking about him. :eyes:

EDIT: Forgot Sharatt, though that is lucky I guess. I suspect it wouldn't help your argument to go into his record.
