PALESTINIAN FIRMS MAY BE BUILDING ISRAEL'S FENCE
Palestinian officials are probing whether there's concrete evidence that some of their own firms are helping to build Israel's controversial "security fence."
One Palestinian lawmaker, speaking on condition of anonymity, said yesterday it appears that even a cement company owned by Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia's family is among the businesses building the fence that their government vehemently opposes.

Israeli TV reported that the Al-Quds Cement Co., owned by Qureia's family, has been providing the materials to help build the barrier.

It said Qureia himself was providing the cement to build the concrete slabs right outside his house in Abu Dis, a town near Jerusalem.

It seems some may object less to the peace fence, given economic incentives. Oh, my.

1. Since this isn't news, I suspect the Israeli FM has a hand in this
The Palestinian connection was first reported in Israel by Yehuda Golan in Ma'ariv on 23 December 2003, quoting Gaby Ashekanzi from the Israeli Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee.

Specifics were reported in an update in the same paper the next day.

No doubt since then the Israeli FM has been searching for a decent hasbara connection.

2. Nice to see that the Peace Fence is a catalyst for Mid-East harmony.
The Peace Fence...making the world a better place, one brick at a time.

3. Indeed
It would appear the peace fence is helping the Palestinian economy in this regard.

5. ha!
Given the economic plight that the intifadah has caused this is probably welcome news.
