Rumsfeld supports Israel's need for nukes
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 09:58 AM by Herschel

US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld expressed support for Israel's need for nuclear weapons at a NATO meeting in Munich, reported Ynet Wednesday.

When asked about the US administration's leniency on Israel's alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction, Rumsfeld, without denying or asserting that Israel in fact possessed these, answered unhesitantly:

"We take the world like you find it; and Israel is a small state with a small population. It's a democracy and it exists in a neighborhood that in many – over a period of time has opined from time to time that they'd prefer it not be there and they'd like it to be put in the sea. And Israel has opined that it would prefer not to get put in the sea, and as a result, over a period of decades, it has arranged itself so it hasn't been put in the sea."

The bipartisan support for Israel is gratifying.

6. Have you read the counterpoint/punch thread?
Had you already seen it, you might have recognized the SECOND step.

Otherwise I might agree with you about piddling bullshit.

3. The bipartisan support for Israel is gratifying. ...
Certain elements in I/P are gratified having WMD ...

Certain elements in I/P are gratified they have the support of our own opposition, whom we universally despise in DU ...

Certain elements in I/P are gratified repeating the fawning sycophancy offered by the propaganda organs of our own opposition ...

Certain elements in I/P are gratified having WMD, knowing they have the ability to destroy huge chunks of humanity .. Oh Joy ...

This coupling of Certain elements in I/P, who are gratified having WMD ... with our own enemies, is troubling to us in DU ...

Is the friend of our enemy our friend ???? ...

8. Certain elements
in I/P want to destroy Israel.

Certain elements in I/P want Israel to never have existed.

Certain elements in I/P know that the only thing preventing the ultimate destruction of Israel is the nukes.

Is it any wonder Israel needs them?

9. Such a number ...
MUST be miniscule .... numbering perhaps in the ONES: out of nearly 40,000 total DU membership ...

So: ... it is ok to embrace our OWN enemies within the Bush Administration, because a few DUers out of thousands dont like Israel ?? ...

Look: ... it is simply too much to ask us to agree that Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, Bush, and ANY other member of this vicious cabal of the PNAC: that they are 'good people' and should be praised ...

We are working toward REMOVING Rumsfeld from power, along with his other PNAC friends ..

And here in I/P ? ... he receives accolades ...

You know what ? .. times are tough, and yes: Israel faces threats ... but IF Israel AND their arab enemies had REALLY WORKED for peace, they would have it ....

It isnt hard to find hatred of arabs here in I/P: it drips from every other thread ... So please dont ask us to believe that it is only ANTIisraeli sentiment that has led to the current debacle .. own your OWN feelings ....

Perhaps the HATRED is the problem, and perhaps the desire to have 'bigger' weapons is only a bromide for the weak ... Those who refuse to accept the humanity of their neighbors ... and who would willingly snuff out their lives en masse ....

You dont need WMD: ... you need a HEART ! ....

Imagine a moment: ... the impact of a 5 megaton device in Amman, or Beiruit, or Damascus, OR Cairo, OR Gaza, OR Bethlehem ....

WHERE will Israel be then ?? ...

Israeli and WMD is a fool's paradise ... a false hope for those who refuse to extend to all the title; 'human being' ...

13. A few?
Well, I can't tell the folks here even with a program. The newcomers come and go, often after a few posts.

But the problem extends beyond I/P into the Mideast where Israel's enemies truly wish it destroyed. And that is why it is necessary to embrace one's U.S. enemies at times.

As for accolades, if Bush personally solved the Mideast crisis, I'd pile them on him no matter what. Sometimes even bad people do the right thing.

Oh, hatred of Arabs drips from "every other thread." That sounds like one hell of an exaggeration.

It is difficult to, "accept the humanity of their neighbors," when some of those neighbors come sneaking across the border to blow up women and children.

And, even if you have a heart, that won't stop bastards like that.

If Israel ever had to drop, "a 5 megaton device in Amman, or Beiruit, or Damascus, OR Cairo, OR Gaza, OR Bethlehem," it would be all but destroyed already.

Those weapons are there to remind Israel's enemies that all out war has consequences. Consequences the Arab world would rather not face.

14. Not likely
Israel hasn't tried to push THEM into the sea. They, on the other hand, have tried to do that to Israel repeatedly.

17. Surely
you would not embrace a position simply to disagree with the opposition. Perhaps they are correct at times.

20. Nice timing, Rummy
At a time when the Bush administration is talikng about trying to stop the spread of WMD he announces that it is okay for a country to have nuclear weapons.

We need to be consistent on the issue. How do we expect to win the hearts and minds of the Arab world if we say their enemy can have WMD but they can't? We should work for a nuclear-free Middle East and protect Israel under the American security blanket, like we have done with Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan for 50+ years.
