Israel: 59% support the resumption of negotiations with Syria

Results of an opinion poll published by Tel Aviv university yesterday said that most of the Israelis support the resumption of peace talks with Damascus.

Some of 59% of participants in the poll considered that Israel has an interest in resumption of the dialogue against 34% who said the opposite; 7% did not express their views. But only 18% supported finalization a peace treaty with Syria for complete withdrawal from the Golan while 59% opposed that.

Some 71% of the Israelis who took part in the opinion poll considered that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad does not want to sign peace treaty with Israel and 20% who said the opposite, and 9% who expressed no views.

The questionnaire was made by "Tamy Shtinmits center for peace" on a group of 575 persons with a margin of error at 4.5%.
