Far-right lawyer denies Holocaust as incitement trial opens

BERLIN - A notorious far-right attorney cursed the German legal system and called the Holocaust a lie Friday at the opening of his trial on charges of incitement in a Berlin state court.

Horst Mahler, a former leader of the far-right National Democratic Party, and two other men are charged with circulating anti-Semitic and xenophobic pamphlets on the Internet in October 2000.

Mahler is also charged with circulating other pamphlets at the party headquarters in 2002 that referred to anti-Semitism as "perfectly normal and a sign of solid mental health."

Addressing the court Friday, Mahler, 68, again denied the Holocaust had happened.

"It is a lie that we systematically murdered six million Jews," he said.

1. I had no idea that Mel Gibson was a lawyer.
:eyes:

:puke:

It is this type of anti-semitism that Gibson will bring back to life.

2. Same old, same old
Have you seen the article about the "Judas-Game" game show they were going to have in Germany? No, Jew-hatred isn't a problem at all in Europe . . .

4. We must understand
where this man is coming from. His people have been oppressed by Israel for so long of course he would hate them. It really isn't that dangerous anyway. Besides, Israel is building a big fence and thats worse than denying the Holocaust isn't it?

I mean, I don't condone this behaviour but we must understand it, musn't we? This is probably Sharon's fault anyway...

While as a progressive I normally would blame the HATER, in the case of anti semitism, it must be the fault of the Jews...er, I mean, Zionists.

In summation:

Understand hate of Jews...opposse hate of anyone else

Don't CONDONE Jew hatred...just understand it

Jews should stop whining about synagogue burnings, grave desecration, Holocaust denial and terror attacks around the world because they are over represented in the Media.

or something like that...
====================================
Here is the really sick thing...in this particular context this post, while obviously(I hope)satire, will be pulled.

But say indentical things after a terror attack in Israel, with Palestinians or other Arabs as the subject, and it would stand and be agreed with by many.

5. Horst Mahler
Horst Mahler isn't a former leader of the National Democratic Party, he joined the party in 2000. But as lawyer he appeared for them in the proceedings to ban the party in 2002. Unfortunatly, he was successful.

As a member of the far-left terrorist organisation RAF, he was arrested in 1970 and given a prison sentence of 14 years. After his release he turned to the right.

6. Thanks for the information, Ottmar! And welcome to DU
I just cannot believe that this inane scenario is being trotted out again, but your information helps us understand the reasons that he would say such things.

7. The extremes
extremists on either end of the political spectrum are dangerous, and I can't say I'm surprised that this guy is a former extreme-leftist. You don't find much difference at the extremities of thought.
