U.S. Lawmakers Tour Israel on Peace Trip
JERUSALEM (AP) - Yasser Arafat is hampering a two-month-old Mideast peace effort, U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said Tuesday, ahead of a meeting with U.S.-backed Palestinian premier Mahmoud Abbas.

Hoyer is leading 29 House Democrats in a weeklong tour of Israel to learn about Mideast peace prospects. The group met Israeli lawmakers before their talks with Abbas and was to see Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon later Tuesday.

-snip-

"Nobody believes that Arafat is pursuing peace positively at this point," Hoyer said. "And that's the problem."

-snip-

He had at least one ally among the U.S. lawmakers. Jerrold Nadler, a representative from New York, said the United States should not pressure Israel to stop construction.

As for any hardships the barrier is causing to Palestinians, Nadler said, "That's the price you pay for having a lot of terrorism."

4. that and Barghouti would be his successor
That is never going to happen because he would actually put up an effective resistance vs. a bunch of nihilistic, feel-good, useless human bomb attacks.

5. so so so

readable really. Probably Barghouti is not on that Prisoner's to be Released either. Do you have any info as to how Barghouti and Yasser get along? Man this act can be torturous to watch like bondage and snuff.

Bullies never pick on someone their own size, the impotent creatures they truly are.

8. Cool
all paid for by AIPAC. The results are predictable.

What our representatives aren't willing to sacrifice for a nice vacation.

The 'paid for by' label is missing from almost all articles. I believe it ought to be required for an advertisement, don't you think?
