Abe Foxman Shilling for the Sharon Gang, Again
Americans almost made it through the year without being subjected to yet another boring spiel from the Anti-Defamation League’s chief honcho and know-it-all, Abe Foxman....latest rant is entitled, “Open to Debate in Israel.” I wondered after reading it: Shouldn’t he be required to register with the U.S. Justice Department as an agent for a foreign-based principal? Huh? Keep in mind, that he makes $450,000 a year for being a one-man, hot-air propaganda machine. At a minimum, Foxman, a card carrying Zionist, should have been required by the editors of the “Washington Post,” to come clean, on the record, about all of his Israeli connections, so that an unsuspecting reading public would have been put on notice about his biases. ...

Foxman was upset because his favorite country, Israel, was recently criticized at Geneva, by Yossi Beilin, a former Israeli minister of justice, and Yasser Abed Rabbo...He also whined that they were attacking “Israel’s fundamental legitimacy as a sovereign state.”...The pompous ADL boss thinks this so-called, “Geneva Accord,” (an unofficial framework for Middle East peace), is all part of a sinister plot to “disrespect Israel’s democratic institutions.” Oh, come off it, Foxman! That sounds like classic conspiracy mongering to me.

Some critics, like Amnesty International, however, have dared to directly challenge Israel’s claim to be a democracy, particularly for its use of fascist-like death squads. I’m sure even Foxman would agree there isn’t anything “democratic” about Israeli thugs killing unarmed Palestinians, without a trial or even any semblance of due process of law. (And, by the way, when, if ever, is Elie Wiesel, who once wrote, “To remain silent and indifferent is the greatest sin of all...” going to address the Israeli death squads’ issue?) ..In the last three years alone, over 152 Palestinians have been targeted for extra judicial assassination by the Tel Aviv-based operatives (phrmg.org). It would be interesting to know: How exactly do Sharon’s death squads function? Does the Israeli Cabinet have to officially approve of each designated murder?...

Foxman swears Israel has a “healthy democracy” because oppositional figures are heard all of the time. Sure, they are! Unless, of course, they are protesting its notorious Apartheid Wall, than they can be shot by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) with live ammunition....

3. Yeah! People working against bigotry and racism deserve our comtempt!
I can't believe how consistantly anti-bigotry groups and leaders get condemned in here if they include anti-Semtism as a bigotry they oppose while defense is offered for mind-boggling racism as long as the right people (say, the Egyptian State TV network or the FM of Syria) do it...

5. I mean like the ADL or the SPLC
Of course, if I wanted to be intellectually dishonest as you were, I could try to equate a pro-PA radical group with a pro-PA, humanitarian, anti-bigotry group to make them look the same but, first, I'd have to actually find a pro-PA, humanitarian, anti-bigotry group...

pro-PA humanitarian, anti-bigotry groups or people in your mind. They're all evil people, right Mike?

Oh and even the ADL has it's own bigotry, as was revealed numerous times by people even from their own organization...

7. Over-acting at it's best
Maybe ADL were once an anti-bigotry organisation maybe not, but basically what there are now is a right-wing political organisation cynically using anti-Semitism to push it's right-wing political agenda.

Basically much like Faux News with their "you are anti-American if you disagree with us" line.

8. In fact they are worse than Faux News
because Faux are just a political propagada outfit, and they don't hide it.

ADL hide behind moral values to peddle their garbage, probably more like the right-wing Christian Coalition bastards.

Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 03:44 PM by MikeGalos
these "right-wing" political moves the ADL did this year to advance their "right-wing agenda":

  • Software Maker Removes Offensive Remarks About Haitians from Video Game

  • ADL Joins Coalition in Effort to Remove "Jap Road" Signs in Texas

  • ADL Blasts 'Ghettopoly' for Racist Content; Says Game's Stereotypes of Blacks Offensive and Degrading

  • ADL Commends California Voters for Defeating Proposition 54

  • ADL Commends House Action to Condemn Bias-Motivated Violence

    How about:

  • ADL Urges House of Representatives to Consider Resolution Protecting Arabs, South Asians, Muslims and Sikhs

    or

  • ADL Calls for Apology from MA State Senator For Distributing Anti-Muslim Flier

    or

  • ADL Hails Supreme Court Decision Overturning Texas Sodomy Law

    or

  • ADL Welcomes Supreme Court Decision Upholding Virginia State Ban on Cross Burning

    or

  • ADL Urges Congressman Coble To Apologize For Remarks Supporting Internment of Japanese Americans During World War II

If THIS is your definition of a "right-wing" organization pushing a "right-wing agenda", perhaps you need to get out your dictionary and share it's definition with the rest of us since it sure doesn't sound like any definition I've ever heard. By your definition of "right-wing agenda", you include the "right-wing agenda" of the ACLU and the Democratic Party.

So, tell me, are there any human rights organizations you call liberal that that oppose anti-Semitism or does that automatically make them "right-wing" by your peculiar definition?

For that matter, perhaps you can name a civil rights group you'd say isn't "right-wing" with as good a track record of defending the rights of all minorities including Blacks, immigrants, Moslems, Jews, Haitians, Gays and Asians...

    Nah. Didn't think so.

For more examples of things this "right-wing" organization did this year to promote civil-rights and combat hate, go to their website at http://www.adl.org and browse this years press releases.

14. Gee
My ADL citations are from the ADL website, who knows where your bizarre characterization comes from...

Care to provide a statement from the ADL that backs up your ridiculous allegation?

Here's a place to start, http://www.adl.org

To make it less work for you to find the truth, here's their press statements page: http://www.adl.org/PresRele/Breaking_News.htm

Their latest press release is ADL's Miller Early Childhood Initiative Launches National Rollout of Anti-Bias Program for Young Children in case you want to tell us how anti-Bias Early Childhood Education is Right Wing...

I simply think that they've lost their focus in an attempt to defend Israel at all costs.

While it is acceptable to be critical of the ADL and Israel, this article is an ad hominem attack on one individual and does so in an extremely inflammatory and hypocritical manner (using extremely similar and distasteful tactics that he accuses Mr. Foxman of) that it provides no useful advancement of the I/P debate.
