FM urges Nobel panel to rescind Arafat's peace prize
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom urged in remarks broadcast Tuesday that the Nobel Prize committee rescind the peace prize awarded Yasser Arafat in 1994 for the Oslo process.

Shalom, addressing a Foreign Ministry ceremony late Monday marking the 25th anniversary of the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to former prime minister Menchem Begin, stressed that Begin and fellow laureate Anwar Sadat of Egypt received the award for having negotiated, signed, and abided by a full peace treaty between former arch-foes Israel and Egypt.

2. By the 2 War Crime Organizations,
I presume you mean Israel and the PA.

Please note the article stresses the difference in their request by stating:

"...stressed that Begin and fellow laureate Anwar Sadat of Egypt received the award for having negotiated, signed, and abided by a full peace treaty between former arch-foes Israel and Egypt..."

It seems to me that they were trying to reward progress and be even-handed whereas the awarding of a peace prize to Arafat is quite the opposite.

3. Welcome to DU
Malvina! :toast: :bounce:

And I agree, giving the peace prize to Arafat is like giving it to Sharon. Neither deserve it...

4. But then Sharon
wasn't nominated, now, was he. Arafat accepted the Nobel with no intention of fulfilling the peace agreement.

Welcome to Malvina! :toast: :yourock:
