Knesset panel to discuss shooting of two peace activists
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/376391.html

<snip>

"The Head of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Yuval Steinitz (Likud), said Saturday morning that he intends to convene a committee meeting to discuss an incident Friday in which Israel Defense Force soldiers shot and wounded two people during a demonstration against the West Bank separation fence, Israel Radio reported.

Gil Na'amati, an Israeli citizen from Kibbutz Re'im in the Negev sustained serious wounds, while an American tourist was lightly hurt.

Na'amati is currently in stable condition at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, while the American woman has been released from hospital.

The incident occurred close to the Palestinian village of Mahase, east of Rosh Ha'ayin, where around 100 members of the Anarchist Movement against the Wall and the International Solidarity Movement were protesting against the construction of the security fence."

1. Unfortunately, Sir
This will probably prove a whitewash, and that is unfortunate.

It is hard to see how this could be an appropriate use of force.

2. Well, Judge, it seems to me that Israel is doing what it should:

Israel is fully looking into the problem and will take full measures to punish those responsible and prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

5. yeah right
the guy that murdered Rachel Corrie got off

so did the soldier that murdered Tom Hurndall.

Israeli killers always get away with murders.

6. I should have continued...
why would we think that they couldn't get away with mere shootings of peace activists, when they've twice got away with murders of peace activists?

10. Yeah, sure they will.
And I'll believe THAT when hell freezes over. Israeli soldiers always manage to get away with things like this. The only reason they're even bothering to investigate this time is because an Israeli was one of the victims.

3. The article includes:
Deputy Defense Ministry Ze'ev Boim (Likud) said Saturday that he hopes that an investigation will make clear that the IDF soldiers involved in the shooting were following military regulations.

Oh, so they were just following orders then. I see.

7. Typical piece of bloody racism
Shoot a few hundred Palestinians. Snore.

Run over an American peace activists with a bulldozer. Yawn.

Shoot European peace activists. Boring.

Shoot an israeli peace activist. Oh My God, the immorality of it all, let's hold an enquiry to get to the bottom of this outrage.

8. And it is done officially too
How many times have we heard how the death of 10 israelis as a percentage of the population is worth a whole city of Americans.

9. And they often don't even bother
to count Palestinian deaths as anything worth noting.

11. I suppose what will happen now
is that the 'rules of engagement' for the IDF will be changed.

If there is an israeli peace activist taking part in a demonstration you are not allowed to spray the crowd with bullets.
