Netanyahu: Israeli Arabs Pose Demographic Threat

Arab and Labor Opposition Knesset members rallied against Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday after he warned delegates at a conference on Israeli security that the major demographic problem facing the Jewish State comes from its own Arab citizens, not the Palestinians.

"If there is a demographic problem, and there is, it is with the Israeli Arabs who will remain Israeli citizens," he said at the Herzliya conference. ...Netanyahu attacked the culture of political despair that has led to multiplication of disconnected diplomatic "solutions" adding that these plans only interfere "with the prime minister's direction of policy."

Accusing the former Prime Minister of "stoking the demographic phobia and hostility towards the Israeli Arab population," Balad Party leader Jamal Zkhalka said Netanyahu’s statement "legitimizes racism in the present, and transfer in the future."

1. isn't Ben about the angriest man alive??

I've never been able to consider him a particularly pleasant man. Every time I've ever seen him on the tube, starting way back w/Gulf War I, he really comes across as someone who is absolutely immovable in his opinions and therefore, not very useful in solving the region's issues.

I understand that for many, if not most, Isrealis it is hard not to see enemies everywhere, but Ben certainly never seems to be HELPING the situation much.
