IDF forces unscathed from powerful bomb blast near Rafah

IDF forces came away unscathed after a powerful bomb containing hundreds of kilograms of explosives that blew up on the wall of the Hirdon outpost near Rafah in the south Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning.

The bomb had been placed by Palestinians inside a 2- to 5-meter deep tunnel that led up to the post's wall. No one was wounded in the attack but the position suffered damage.

An hour later a second bomb placed by Palestinians on the eastern side of the post on a road used by security forces blew up; no one was wounded and no damage was reported.

Security officials said the two attacks, for which the Hamas claimed responsibility, marked a serious escalation. "The second bomb was set to explode and hit the emergency and rescue teams arriving at the site to tend to the wounded from the first blast," an IDF official told The Jerusalem Post.

In the evening a bomb exploded near an IDF patrol deployed near the security fence that encompasses Gush Katif not far from Netzer Hazani; again, no one was wounded and no damage was reported.

1. You know what's surprising...
as paranoid as the Israelis are: they didn't place any seismic
detection devices that would have listened for people digging tunnels.
:eyes:

Strange...very strange...

2. Is that possible?
I mean, would such devices actually register manual or even small-machine digging? I wonder if infra-red satelite imaging is useful in detecting such tunnels. I suspect that old-fashioned human intelligence is still the best method of finding and destroying these things.

It would be nice to see Egypt start to take a more active role from its end.

4. Y'know
While it may be cute to call the Israeli's paranoid, it doesn't seem to be the right word when everybody really IS out to get them.

7. Muddle...
it never fails to amaze me how people can sit in
comfortable surroundings and pontificate ignorantly
without ever having to worry about some asshole
terrorist blowing their loved ones off the earth.

never.

8. Will all the respect DOn
When someone says that EVERYBODY is out to get Israel (as if the whole world would want to get rid of them) then don't expect a serious response to such absurd claims. And absurd is an understatement here...

9. You know...
when you takes hits from so many different corners,
it sure as hell seems like 'everybody'.

but fortunately, and thankfully you dont lose to much
sleep EVERYTIME you or your loved ones go out to dinner
or ride a bus.

11. So you're SERIOUSLY telling me
that ALL the world wants Israel and Jews to be destroyed, killed etc...? If that is so, then I really see no sense in debating...

10. You really didn't find it ironic
that the same post referring to Israel as paranoid, then criticized them for not being paranoid enough?
