Settlers' leader threatens "war" if outposts dismantled
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world/view/61171/1/.html

<snip>

"JERUSALEM : The Israeli government will have a "war" on its hands if it tries to carry out its decision to dismantle eight settlement outposts in the West Bank, a settlers' leader warned.

Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz warned Jewish settlers late Monday that eight unauthorized settlements will be dismantled soon, including two which are home to dozens of families.

But Pinhas Wallerstein, one of the leaders of the Yesha (Settlers' Council), said that "the decision to dismantle the inhabited settlements is unacceptable."

"We will end up with direct confrontation and if needs be there will be a war," Wallerstein told military radio."

<snip>

"Peace Now chief Yaariv Oppenheimer, told AFP that the announcement about the dismantling of the settlements was part of an elaborate charade.
"We have already seen in the last few months that settlements which were evacuated were immediately reinstalled. For the moment the settlers still have the upper hand, which explains our scepticism."

1. Ridiculous

This is a fun little game they play.

Sharon announces that he's going to evacuate some "outposts."

The settlers (colonists) say they won't leave. "This is war."

--This is great PR for Sharon because it allows him to pretend that he's actually doing something.

The media photographs the confrontation between the "Hilltop Youth" and the IDF -- IDF drags a few idiots away, then feeds them lunch.

Settlers go to the next hill and set up a few trailers, water-tower, electricity, etc.

Everyone's happy. Especially Bush.

2. It's been said before
Back prior to the dismantling of the Sinai settlements. It's all hubris as of course the settlers are totally dependent on the Israeli Government for existence.
