Israeli Strike In Gaza Injures French Diplomat, Family
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- An Israeli strike on the Gaza Strip injured the French consul and his family.

The French Foreign Ministry on Tuesday confirmed that France's consul to the Gaza Strip, Majdi Shakoura, his wife and 13-year-old daughter were wounded by flying glass, and that his wife suffered a miscarriage after Israel's Air Force targeted a Hamas naval police base near their home early Monday morning in retaliation for a rocket fired from Gaza at southern Israel.

"France condemns the consequences of the raid," French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said. "While remaining committed to Israel's security, France had reminded Israel of the need to avoid all harm against civilians."

1. A Shame that Hamas launches rockets from heavily populated areas
Hamas does not care how many human shields they directly put in harms way.

5. France summons Israeli ambassador over Gaza raid
"This morning we reminded the Israeli ambassador how much we deplore the consequences of this raid for the head of our consulate and his family," Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said in a regular online briefing.

"While we recognize Israel's need to ensure its security, he was reminded about the importance of keeping civilians and the French presence in Gaza from being affected," he added.

The raid, which killed one policeman and wounded four others after Palestinian militants from the coastal territory fired a rocket into southern Israel, has added to strains in an already tense relationship between France and Israel.
