Poll: American voters' support for Israel rising
WASHINGTON – Americans’ support for Israel is up, with the increase coming from unexpected sectors, an Israel Project poll released on Thursday revealed.

The poll demonstrated that support for Israel among President Barack Obama’s Democratic voters was on the rise, and that the majority of Americans believed that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was more committed to peace than his Palestinian counterpart.

Support for Israel among Democrats has risen by 10 percentage points in the past six months, while support among independent voters and Republicans has remained steady.

“This poll shows that Israel is significantly more popular among American voters than either the president or Congress,” Israel Project Founder and President Jennifer Laszlo-Mizrahi said. “Second, it shows that the American public really supports the peace process and the two-state solution.”

This is heartening news. Funny that Israel is seen more favorably by Americans than Congress is.

1. Why would a poll compare a nation to politicians? C'est bizarre.

The poll did not do such a comparison.
Approval ratings are higher for Israel (> 50%) than the US Congress (<15%). Just like Americans prefer Baseball to Soccer.

7. But it is not the premise of the story
The premise of the story is that more Americans are demonstrating a growing support for Israel.

8. Ahh, and about the source of this poll.......

from thinkprogress:

The Washington- and Jerusalem-based pro-Israel lobby organization The Israel Project (TIP) claims to be dedicated to “get(ting) facts about Israel and the Middle East to press, public officials and the public.” But it appears that the group is not always particularly interested in getting the facts out. A ThinkProgress investigation has revealed that not only is TIP connected to an Iran-focused media group allegedly based in London, but also the pro-Israel group appears to be trying to cover up those ties.

Last year, a LobeLog investigation of TIP revealed ties between the group and a European media organization called Réalité-EU, a group that “focuses on developments in Iran and the Middle East which pose a global threat.” When asked about Réalité-EU’s connections to The Israel Project, TIP co-founder and president Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi intimated that the reporter (this post’s co-author, Eli Clifton, now at ThinkProgress) was a conspiracy theorist and asked that he “pls (sic) check your facts before you make me/TIP into some scary boogie man.”

Now, ThinkProgress has learned that in 2008, the Réalité-EU project received a quarter-million dollars through a donation made to TIP by the Marcus Foundation. According to the foundation’s tax filings , TIP, at its K Street address, received the $250,000 for “Iran Media Project – Realite-EU,” which was listed as the “Project Title.” A screen capture of the grant can be viewed below: http://thinkprogress.org/security/2011/07/20/270650/israel-project-realite-eu/

12. Classic IP Forum strategy: Ad Hominem attack
If you cannot attack the veracity of the article, find a link on the interwebs that damns the source.

13. But the source of the POLL (not the article) calls into question the veracity of the article.

15. Thanks for defining an ad hominem attack for us
Yes, you do not like the source, therefore it must not be true. Class ad hominem.

16. I agree, Yet the poll methodology looks solid
I have seen no complaints about the statistical significance of the poll.

5. People should
take more time reading the article and less time shooting from the lip.

I don't normally read The Jerusalem Post but found the article well written and informative.

19. Do you have any evidence of that
Interpretation of statistically valid poll data may focus on less significant dat elements. For example, using the median if the average is less desirable. However, you proferred no evidence of that.

21. Well, Israelis *are* more popular than Congress
Congress is hovering below 10%. Perhaps Americans are looking for positive role models that deal with adversity effectively rather than resort to partisan bickering.

18. There's nothing heartening about the attitudes towards Palestinians in that poll...
From the article:

'Over half of those polled – 56% – consider Palestinians to be “extremist” and an “obstacle to peace,” and 55% do not consider Palestinians to be “victims.”'

Do you find that heartening or agree with those who think Palestinians are extremists and an obstacle to peace?

20. Is 56% about the same margin that voted the terrorist group into Hamas?
If so, yes, their votes were an obstacle to peace.
