Anti-Semitism tainting Occupy Wall Street protests
'Emergency Committee for Israel' publishes clip in which Jews are attacked and blamed for financial crisis and assistance to Israel

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4135361,00.html

<snip>

"Several anti-Semitic incidents have been reported during "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations in New York as Jews were blamed for the turmoil in America's financial markets. In addition, anti-Israel signs were raised against "Israel's occupation of Gaza".

The "Emergency Committee for Israel" has published a hard-to-watch clip in which Jews are attacked and blamed for the financial crisis and assistance to Israel. The committee is a neo-conservative body headed by William Kristol, the Jewish editor of the Weekly Standard, which aims to convince Jews to vote for a Republican presidential candidate.

It should be noted that the video is political in nature and seeks to tie President Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to the protesters, urging them to "stand up to the mob."

<snip>

"Among the signs that could be seen in the protest were, "Gaza supports the occupation of Wall Street", "Hitler's Bankers", and a sign urging people to Google the following: Wall St. Jews, Jewish billionaires, Jews & Federal Reserve Bank.

In addition, the anti-Israel group Code Pink: Women for Peace was spotted as well as other Arab groups."

3. Not the only example out there...
Reality is that there are always going to be some flakes in any demonstration like this and the media will focus on them.

5. aha I would recomend that people watch this 'hard to watch video'
produced by William Krystol and aimed at linking Democrats to antisemitism some of it seems a bit well contrived IMO

6. the lying bastards have been tricking us for 2 generations and more!
fact is, many of the most articulate anti bankster activists are Jewish- so the old 'Noam Chomsky is an anti-semite' bs that the foxnews creeps like krystal have been pushing since the fascists murdered JFK, MLK, Malcolm X and RFK etc isn't working anymore! The black bloc = police, al ciada = cia operation, 911 = inside job, mass media = bloody rightwing liars. And it's become too obvious, even for the mainstream

8. There will always be a few freaks at any demo
Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 12:38 PM by LeftishBrit
And there will always be nutcases who think that Jews control the banks, are responsible for everyone's economic woes, etc.

I understand that some Ron Paul fans have glommed on to OWS at times and I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Jews and Federal Reserve Bank' crap is linked to that.

But using the existence of such nuts to discredit the entire OWS movement, and progressive causes in general, and to attack Obama and Pelosi just shows the desperation of the Right. And I doubt that Jews are going to turn out for Republican candidates, especially given the Republican links to Christian-Right extremism.

I wonder how many antisemites you'd find at a Tea Party demo - far more than here, I suspect!

protesters in Occupy. They all understand what happened in Europe so many years ago.

15. What is there not to believe?
It is definitely true that there are people holding antisemitic signs and making antisemitic remarks.

It's also definitely true that their numbers are being blown out of proportion by the RWers for their own ends.

11. "Emergency Committee for Israel" - no surprise here
"Stand up to the mob." This is Billy Kristol's profession. That's how he stays in the 1%.

It is mind-boggling for anyone to think OWS is about jews - except for the millions who got fleeced like everyone else.

13. RNC: Why don't Dems decry 'Occupy' anti-Semitism?
<snip>

"The Republican National Committee attacked Democrats on Wednesday for staying silent about “extreme anti-Semitic, anti-Israel comments” reported at the Occupy Wall Street protests.

RNC communications director Sean Spicer blasted top Democrats for voicing their support for the demonstrations even as some of the protesters make “anti-Semitic, anti-Israel comments,” according to a memo first reported in “Morning Score” on Wednesday.

Spicer pointed to President Barack Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel for turning a “blind eye” to the language used by some individuals at Occupy Wall Street.

“Where’s the outrage?” Spicer wrote.

“Is Steve Israel standing with those calling for the killing of Jews? Does Debbie Wasserman Schultz agree with the various calls for Jews to be ‘run out of this country’ and to oppose and ‘destroy’ the state of Israel?” he added in the memo.

In the memo, Spicer linked to three different videos documenting the comments he referred to. In one from the conservative group Emergency Committee for Israel called “Hate at Occupy Wall Street,” several demonstrators are shown making comments such as “Jews control Wall Street” and “You can’t even speak English? You Israeli? Go back to Israel.” A sign saying “Hitler’s Bankers Wall Street” also appears in the clip."

14. Occupy Boston Takes Aim at Israeli Occupation
Tuesday’s march, under the moniker Occupy Boston-Not Palestine, was held in conjunction with dozens of members of Jewish Women for Justice in Palestine at Dewey Square, the center of the Occupy Boston movement, according to a report in the The Daily Free Press, a Boston University independent student publication.

The protesters linked arms and marched down the street chanting slogans.

Protesters told the student newspaper that Israel uses U.S. tax dollars to occupy Palestine, and that the new Middle East will marginalize the United States over its relationship with Israel.

“We need to build houses in the U.S. instead of destroying houses in Palestine,” Nancy Murray of Boston told the student newspaper. “The occupation has gone on for so long because the U.S. vetoed 41 valid U.N. Security Council resolutions. They’ve given Israel the green light to abuse human rights.”

16. Pro-Israel Group Tries To Smear The Protestors
<snip>

"A right-wing, pro-Israel group called the Emergency Committee for Israel has released a commercial that portrays the ongoing protests against the cozy relationship between government and corporations as anti-Semitic.

The ad begins with a voice-over claiming that some political leaders are sympathetic to Occupy Wall Street, followed by sound bites in which Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, President Obama and commentator Eliot Spitzer make statements in support of protesters.

Viewers are then asked to consider what the protests are really about and shown clips in which supposed protesters connect Jews to the media and the financial industry and berate an elderly man wearing a yarmulke. Then the voice-over asks: “Why are our leaders turning a blind eye to anti-Semitic, anti-Israel attacks? Tell President Obama and ... Pelosi to stand up to the mob. Hate is not an American value.”

As the OWS movement becomes a threat to entrenched power, smear campaigns against it are sure to come from the political and media establishment. Fortunately, there are reporters at Liberty Plaza who can see through such efforts. As one of them, I can tell you that I have not witnessed any acts of anti-Semitism and that there is even a growing Jewish presence inside the park."

19. An ad was run on CBS this morning, calling out Obama and Pelosi
to put an end to the "problem".

Tell President Obama: Enough. It’s time to stand with Israel.

17. Emergency Committee For Israel Board Member Calls Palestinians ‘Savages,’ ‘Unmanned Animals,’
Full Title: Emergency Committee For Israel Board Member Calls Palestinians ‘Savages,’ ‘Unmanned Animals,’ ‘Food For Sharks’

<snip>

"The Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI) — a right-wing “pro-Israel” pressure group — attempted to paint the Occupy Wall Street protests as anti-Semitic. But while plenty of evidence runs counter to the ECI’s far-reaching assertions that politicians are “turning a blind eye to anti-semitic, anti-Israel attacks,” the ECI is much slower to condemn its own ties to ethnic and religious intolerance.

ECI board member Rachel Abrams — wife of George W. Bush administration Middle East adviser Elliott Abrams — litters her blog, “Bad Rachel,” with homophobic, anti-Palestinian, innuendo-filled screeds about political opponents."

<snip>

"But Abrams saves her harshest, most dehumanizing, words for Palestinians. Abrams writes that after Israel finishes celebrating the release of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, they should:

…round up his captors, the slaughtering, death-worshiping, innocent-butchering, child-sacrificing savages who dip their hands in blood and use women—those who aren’t strapping bombs to their own devils’ spawn and sending them out to meet their seventy-two virgins by taking the lives of the school-bus-riding, heart-drawing, Transformer-doodling, homework-losing children of Others—and their offspring—those who haven’t already been pimped out by their mothers to the murder god—as shields, hiding behind their burkas and cradles like the unmanned animals they are, and throw them not into your prisons, where they can bide until they’re traded by the thousands for another child of Israel, but into the sea, to float there, food for sharks, stargazers, and whatever other oceanic carnivores God has put there for the purpose.

Abrams’ violent fantasies are protected under the first amendment, but the organization’s leadership might want to look in the mirror before smearing the Occupy Wall Street protests as intolerant."

18. This 'Occupy' Anti-Semite Is No New Face
Occupy Wall Street’s most visible anti-Semite was picketing the Financial District long before Zuccotti Park was occupied.

Carrying a variety of hand-lettered signs with anti-Semitic messages, images of the man — who has been vehemently disowned by the mainstream of the protest movement — have been instrumental to the case that Occupy Wall Street is tainted by animus towards Jews.

But though he’s been a presence at Zuccotti Park almost since the protest began, the man who identified himself to Salon as David Smith was in the Financial District earlier this summer, on his own, carrying similar placards.

Smith is featured in two or three of the four clips of anti-Semites at Occupy Wall Street in a video produced by the Emergency Committee for Israel’s video. He’s been photographed and extensively written about.
