Middle East Road Map Is Not Dead, Powell Says
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=3931330

<snip>

"MARRAKESH, Morocco (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell said Wednesday the Middle East peace "road map" was not dead, but that he was open to ideas like the unofficial peace plan launched in Switzerland earlier this week.
"The more we talk about peace, the better. I welcome ideas from whatever source," Powell told a news conference in Marrakesh during a three-nation North African tour, when asked about the symbolic Geneva Accord.

"The road map is definitely not dead -- it's a living document," he said, referring to the U.S.-backed plan to end three years of violence between Israelis and Palestinians."

"Powell earlier told reporters he expected to meet the authors of the Geneva plan, possibly Friday.

He said he had a right to meet anyone with ideas on Middle East peace -- despite Israeli criticism that it would be a mistake to meet the authors of the proposal.

Powell said canvassing a wide range of peacemaking ideas, even if they were opposition figures, was part of his job."

1. Too bad he doesn't have any credibility.
Once you have proven yourself a liar, it is difficult, if not impossible to gain people's trust.
Perhaps if the incompetent Bush administration had not deliberately ignored this problem for so long, we would be further "down the road." If you recall, they didn't want to have anything to do with Israel/Palestine immediately after the USSC appointed the regime. Probably because Clinton had worked so hard to achieve peace. Maybe because they are cowards and afraid of failure.
Brave leaders like Clinton will fight for good causes, undeterred by the prospect of failure. Clinton's efforts kept the situation manageable and much more peaceful than now. Our current administration chose to ignore a problem they were afraid to face. Their indifference only made the problems worse.
