Jonathan Pollard Undergoes Emergency Surgery
<snip>

"Convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard was taken Monday to the hospital for an urgent operation, suggesting a further deterioration in his health.

Pollard has been suffering lately from many medical complications in his gallbladder and kidneys.

Pollard’s wife, Esther, said that since receiving the news from the prison management she is “climbing on the walls.” “I am so worried I don’t know what to do with myself,” she said. “The last time a similar thing happened the doctor told Jonathan that he was saved from death at the last minute.”

4. All it says is "many problems" with gall bladder & kidneys.
However, such problems often do not exist in isolation. Given his age, things don't look that great for Pollard. If I had to guess here, I'd guess they took his gall bladder. I expect we will be told the details eventually. Having siblings with such issues, I would not be surprised if ischemic bowel and bowel resection, dialysis, among a variety of other things, were to be in Pollard's future.

3. Jonathan Pollard undergoes medical operation as health deteriorates
Convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard was taken Monday to the hospital for an urgent operation, suggesting a further deterioration in his health.

Pollard has been suffering lately from many medical complications in his gallbladder and kidneys. He was supposed to undergo surgery last week, but it was postponed due to a visit by Israel's Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren.

Pollard's wife, Esther, said that since receiving the news from the prison management she is "climbing on the walls." "I am so worried I don't know what to do with myself," she said. "The last time a similar thing happened the doctor told Jonathan that he was saved from death at the last minute."

MK Uri Ariel (National Union), who chairs the lobby for Pollard in the Knesset, said Tuesday that "Pollard's imprisonment is a humanitarian disgrace," adding "I call again on President Obama to release him immediately, not because he is not guilty, but because you can't keep a sick and non-dangerous man imprisoned for so many years."

6. Clearly not an emergency.
No doubt this is being incorporated in some sort of effort to get him released for "humanitarian reasons", which will go exactly nowhere.

9. Ya know if they want to help this guy, then maybe at least stick with
he's been there long enough blah blah, his health etc. I don't really give a damn myself.
But for crying out loud, Barney has to say bullshit like this:

"...it would be a sign of U.S. - Israeli relations that I think would help strengthen the climate for peace," he added.
