Israel to bill Bedouins for razing their homes
27 July 2011

Israeli authorities are suing residents of a makeshift Bedouin village for the cost of repeatedly evicting them and razing “illegal structures” where they live, an official said on Wednesday… An Israeli non-governmental group, Bedouin-Jewish Justice, reported in March that the homes there had been destroyed and rebuilt 21 times since July 2010.

JERUSALEM — Israeli authorities are suing residents of a makeshift Bedouin village for the cost of repeatedly evicting them and razing “illegal structures” where they live, an official said on Wednesday.

“They built about 40 structures there for which they have no (building) rights,” Israel Land Administration spokeswoman Ortal Tzabar told AFP.

“They have already invaded the site more than 20 times, putting up huts and buildings and it costs us, for policemen and bulldozers and manpower, a huge amount.”

“We added it up and found that the cost of evictions so far is 1.8 million shekels ($529,400, 367,300 euros) she said.

A lawsuit for that amount was filed on Tuesday in a court in Beersheva, the capital of southern Israel’s Negev desert region, where the Bedouin village of Al-Araqib which is not recognised by Israeli authorities regularly rises and falls.

An Israeli non-governmental group, Bedouin-Jewish Justice, reported in March that the homes there had been destroyed and rebuilt 21 times since July 2010.

Edited on Fri Jul-29-11 02:10 PM by azurnoir
here's a picture of Rahat the fully modern city Israel was kind enough to build for those 'ungrateful' Bedouin's

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahat

gosh who wouldn't want to live there?

but even in Rahat Bedouin's insist on breaking the law

In another direct assault against the country’s Bedouin-Palestinian community, Israeli police demolished a mosque in the Negev Bedouin city of Rahat during the evening hours of Saturday, 6 November. (2010)

Hundreds of policemen and Israeli Land Administration (ILA) authorities, in addition to tractors and ambulances, descended upon the city and demolished the mosque, citing Israeli police claims that the structure was built illegally.

Southern District Police Chief Commander Yochanan Danino, who supervised the operation, said, "We acted with resolve to enforce the rule of law and relayed a message that Israel Police will not ignore illegal activity while remaining sensitive to the Muslims' feelings," reported Ynet News.

Hundreds of residents protested the demolition and Israeli police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, detaining five. The Rahat municipality has called for a general strike in wake of the demolition.

4. Just a thought. Why doesn't the Israeli government go in and tear down all the
illegal Jewish settlements and bill the homeowners after they evict them? Oh yeah, that's right, in Israeli politics, establishing land grabs and growing Jewish settlements is considered progress.
