WASHINGTON – Following the publication of an article in which Judge Richard Goldstone expressed regret over his report accusing Israel of committing war crimes during Operation Cast Lead, US Congress members and Jewish organizations have demanded that the UN retract the Goldstone report.

Florida Congressman Ted Deutch published a statement where he said that by Goldstone's own confession the committee's report was deeply flawed and that Goldstone acknowledges that the UN Human Rights Committee is prejudiced against Israel and so the must bring about the immediate retraction of the original report.



The American Jewish Committee published a statement calling on Goldstone to "present his updated conclusions to the UN Human Rights Council, as well as to the General Assembly, which endorsed the skewed report, and press for its rejection.”

perhaps Dershowitz could be on the Israel's legal team, he does seem quite good at being a defense attorney

Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-17) issued the following statement after Richard Goldstone, the author of the flawed United Nations’ “Goldstone Commission,” recanted his opinion that Israel committed human rights abuses during the Gaza conflict in 2008-09.

“I have believed all along that this report was a sham, and I said so publicly back in September 2009. As I said then, Israel took extraordinary steps in protecting its civilian population from rocket fire from Hamas terrorists who control Gaza. Israel took every reasonable step to avoid civilian casualties – dropping leaflets, not striking with civilians present, phone calls warning civilians to leave unsafe areas. Israel has the right to defend its citizens, just as any other country would if bombed by terrorists.

The kind of responses that one gets in this forum if you don't follow the narrative should tell you why.

The people of Israel have no right to push the Palestinians off that land, no matter what religious or pseudo-historical reasons you come up with. It has been a brutal, outrageous 40-year occupation, and they should have compensated the Palestinians for their land, and either learned to live with them in peace, or given up the theft of land and resources.

There is no land there that Israel is pushing any Palestinians off of.

All Israeli settlements in Gaza were removed years ago.

Gaza has become a large, open-air prison without enough resources, jews only roads, constant air and navy presence (the navy presence constantly interrupting fishing), and polluted water. That's certainly better than the alternative,of course.

6. 'Goldstone does not intend to retract UN report'

Goldstone, in an interview with the Associated Press, said that Yishai had called to thank him for his Washington Post op-ed piece, but that the two never discussed the actual report. Goldstone said that he had responded to Yishai's thanks, telling him his utmost concern was for "truth, justice, and human rights."

On Tuesday, AP reported that the interior minister had said that Goldstone, “as a Jew understands well the story of the Jewish people’s suffering ... and it is very important for him to come and see this." Yishai added that Goldstone had made a promise to work towards an official retraction of the report.

Goldstone told the Associated Press that Yishai had invited him to Israel, and that he accepted the invitation but would not be able to come until July. He added that he ended his conversation with Yishai expressing his "love for Israel."

As for his report on the 2009 Gaza offensive, Goldstone reiterated that the "intentionality on the part of Israel" required review, and that "domestic investigation could lead to further reconsideration." The judge concluded, however, that no part of the report needed reconsideration at the present time.
