Palestinian dies after inhaling gas at W Bank protest

A Palestinian woman has died after inhaling gas fired by Israeli troops during a protest against the West Bank barrier at Bilin on Friday, medics say.

Jawaher Abu Rahmeh, 36, died early on Saturday despite undergoing hours of treatment in a hospital in the nearby city of Ramallah, its director said.

The Palestinian Authority condemned what it called an Israeli "war crime".

The Israeli military said the protest was a "violent and illegal riot" and that it was investigating the death.

Officials had "unsuccessfully contacted the Palestinian Authority to obtain a medical report", a statement added.

Military sources told Israeli media that Ms Abu Rahmah's death might have been the result of an asthmatic condition compounded by tear gas.

5. Here's a report
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4008561,00.html

Nothing is 100% clear, but it seems pretty certain it wasn't tear gas that killed her.

6. ah yes the IDF's 'facts' from Ynet
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 03:39 AM by azurnoir
at the end of YNet's 'story'

I saw her there'

However, far Left activist Yonatan Pollack, who attended the rally in question, dismissed the army's claims.

"I saw that Jahawer took an active role in the protest," he told Ynet, while presenting his update on the incident in his Twitter account.

"I saw how they put her in the ambulance that took her to the hospital. I know with certainty that she arrived there and stayed there, and later died at the hospital," he said.

Despite the problematic findings presented by the army, Pollack insisted that "the IDF's version isn't based on any facts…the only thing the army's claims are based on is the error of a doctor who got one digit wrong when he wrote down the time."

hmmm who has more reason to 'misinform' the public? IDF or the the Palestinians?
btw ever been around teargas? I have

7. And was the teargas you inhaled lethal?
The whole point of this article and all the others posted about the incident is to show and prove how evil and inhumane and positively inhuman the Israelis are. Why, they go around gassing people! Just like a certain other nation in the 40s...

There is evidence that the woman was being treated in hospital for a pre-existing condition, whether leukemia or something else. Was she at the demo or not? No one seems to know for sure.

You dismiss Ynet and the IDF's claims. I do the same with the well-known leftist propagandist Jonathan Pollak.

What you and I and everyone else do know is that teargas is not lethal. This unfortunate woman died. If she suffered from another illness she should not have gone to a demo where she must have known tear gas would be fired. It is used every single week at these demos. And if she wasn't at the demo then something else caused her death.

8. you are welcome to dismiss whatever you please
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 08:00 AM by azurnoir
and btw there are different types of teargas some can be lethal to if inhaled in great enough quantities or concentrations and how did ynet come by the medical report that has not yet been explained either and just what was the drug used? ynet seems silent on that

one must wonder though do you actually believe this IMO cobbled up story or do you simply hope others do?
