Deputies to train in Israel
Four San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies will travel to Israel on Sunday for a weeklong training seminar with that country's national police and will focus on suicide bombings, large-scale terrorist attacks and weapons of mass destruction.

This will be the first time a law enforcement agency in the county has sent officers to train with Israel Police, an agency with an international reputation of having a top-notch anti-terrorism program, sheriff's Lt. Dan Papp said Tuesday.

Papp and three other deputies ---- Sgt. Gary Billick, Cpl. Al La Mons and Detective Robert Luke ---- were selected to make the trip, which will be paid by private donations. All four deputies possess the expertise that are vital to the Sheriff's Department's emergency services division, a unit that oversees anti-terrorism training for some 2,500 deputies.

"We are excited and we are interested," said Papp, a veteran who oversees weapons of mass destruction training. "We probably got more questions than they (Israelis officials) can answer. I understand this is going to be an extremely busy trip."

Another of the many benefits of America's alliance with Israel.

Lets ask the people who have developed the worst terrorist problem on the planet for advice, that's absolutely brilliant.

6. Off topic, sorry....
but I STILL haven't been able to find anything on Google or locally backing up your assertion of army boots from the first Gulf War saying "Made in Israel" in English and Hebrew.

In fact, the one pair of Israeli army boots I have say only "NOGA-EINAT" on the bottoms.

I would really like to know where you heard this.

Someone on there identifies them as Israeli Galil Canvas. I'm working on a paper but I think the library across campus has the book I originally read thet in.

9. If you are referencing
Cockburn's book then it's no wonder I cannot find any source anywhere backing up the "Made in Israel in English and Hebrew" assertion.

10. Individual Soldiers, Ma'am
Often acquire items privately, that they feel are better than issue. Sometimes, it is really little more than an expression of individuality. This photograph, and the one comment upon it, is an awfully slender rede to rest any sweeping statement upon.

Mr. Cockburn would say damned near anything he thought might serve his purpose; he is definitely in the "look first if he says your pants are fire" class of gangster-gramaphone....

12. Each Side Has Its Pigeons, Mr. Soul, That Is True
Those on the left offend me a little more, as no better ought ever to be expected from reactionaries, but that is a question of my own response, not the underlying offense.

13. I know that the rollout for Desert Shield was messy
US Army was still largely equipped only for a European war. If they didn't get those boots from Israel, I would be suprised and not vice-versa.

Converting mole-hills to mountains seems a cottage industry in this place at times.

17. It was something I said once in passing

Other than being a PR negative and possibly a complete cultural blindspot on the part of the American military I never attached any importance to it either.

3. You two
Israel is sharing her expertise. Blame terrorists for their actions, not their victims.

5. Israel thwarts
far more attacks than not. When the killers succeed it is far better reported. Do not be misled.

14. Well but what about all the terrorists Israel
Edited on Wed Nov-26-03 04:14 PM by Classical_Liberal
inspires by not changing it's terrible policies on the West Bank, not to mention its draconian crackdowns which often kill innocence and create more terrorist. Israel's example is not one I care to follow. If it weren't for our support of Israel's land theft, and our tacit support of it through loans, I don't think we would have a terrorist problem at all.

You can now expect if a group of terrorists takes someone near you hostage our anti-terrorism forces to use Israeli tactics like drop a one-ton bomb on your neighborhood. Yet another big plus on asking the Israeli's about terrorism!
