Israeli warplanes bomb Gaza Strip: witnesses
(Reuters) - Israeli warplanes carried out at least five missile attacks on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Friday, Palestinian witnesses said.

They said four of the air strikes took place near the central town of Khan Younis, the site of a deadly clash last week between Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen. The fifth air strike rocked Gaza City.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

1. BBC: 'Twelve' Israeli strikes hit Gaza Strip
Israeli warplanes have carried out at least 12 air strikes on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources have told the BBC.

They said several of the strikes took place in Gaza, with the rest hitting the towns of Khan Younis and Rafah.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Last month, Israeli tanks advanced briefly into the Gaza Strip following clashes in which two Israeli soldiers and two Palestinian militants died.

2. Israeli warplanes carry out missile attacks on Gaza
Israeli warplanes carried out at least five missile attacks on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip late Thursday night, Palestinian witnesses said.

They said four of the air strikes took place near the central town of Khan Younis, the site of a deadly clash last week between Israel Defense Forces soldiers and Palestinian gunmen. The fifth air strike rocked Gaza City.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Last Friday, Major Eliraz Peretz and Staff Sergeant Ilan Sviatkovsky were killed while pursuing a group of Palestinian militants trying to lay mines near the border fence. Two other soldiers were wounded in the incident, and two militants were killed

Earlier on Thursday, a Qassam rocket fired by Palestinian militants hit an open area along the coast of Ashkelon. No injuries or damage were reported.

3. More from Reuters
Israeli planes and helicopters carried out at least seven missile attacks on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Friday, causing damage and slightly wounding two children, Palestinian witnesses and officials said.

They said four air strikes took place in open areas near the central town of Khan Younis, the site of a deadly clash last week between Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen.

Two caravans were destroyed there in Friday's attack but there were no casualties, officials said.

A fifth missile hit a cheese factory in Gaza City, setting it on fire, witnesses and Hamas officials said. Hospital officials said two children were injured by flying debris.

Helicopters struck twice in the central refugee camp of Nusseirat, destroying a metal foundry. There were no casualties.

An Israeli military spokesman declined immediate comment.

Late on Thursday, a Palestinian short-range rocket landed in Israel, causing no casualties, the military said. There was no claim of responsibility.

An Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip early last year was designed to counter such salvoes. They have resumed sporadically in recent weeks, provoking Israeli air strikes.
