Religion should be banned...
Religion is the cause of the troubles in the Middle east. So therefore Religion should be banned from the Middle east. What is wrong with you people.

A so called "New Atheist" and even I think any policing over one's thoughts, whether by religion or state, is wrong

have the wrong belief?

5. That is how we get equated with Palin.
That is so inflammatory, and sudicrous, it equates to Beck. When we suggest Death penalty for carnivours, and suggest an endangered mountain tick needs protection, we all suffer. Save your intolerance.

will agree with you. Well, I'm an atheist, and I have no problem with people having religious beliefs, as long as they don't insist that I accept their beliefs as my own.

You'll find that DUers are far too intelligent to fall for a bald-faced flamebait like the one you posted. Sorry.

13. You speak for me on this, MineralMan...
There's no need for thought police. Anyone can believe what they choose as long as they don't foist it upon others. That goes for bigotry, racism, classism... all the horrid things that people think, they have every right to think them. They can worship spaghetti and meatballs for all I care.

19. So that's the solution! All this time I've been trying to ban crap music..
..mainly because I'm a musical snob who holds the strong belief that while freedom of choice is a fine thing, there's a line that gets crossed where listening to something like Metallica or other mindless crap should be listed by the UN as a war-crime, and I should be appointed the Special Rappointer of Musical Stuff in order to force everyone to listen to Violet-approved music...

After that I was going to ban people who want to ban religion. Mainly because they annoy this atheist with their simplistic and illogical trains of thought...

22. every society that has ever attempted to ban religion, every single one without a single exception
has been totalitarian in all respects - once one opens the Pandora's Box of what is acceptable belief or opinion - then nothing is sacred (no pun intended). Every single society in the history of the world that has gone down that route also ended up banning all speech critical of its rulers - every single one without any exception.

On top of all of that, it doesn't work. In spite of many Communist regimes spending most of the 20th century attempting to either ban or severely restrict religious belief and practice - they never really succeeded. It came roaring back with a vengeance.

I wonder why this thread is in the I/P forum of all places?

finally unite Muslims, Christians and Jews together against a common enemy.

Wrong! The US congress tried to ban hate scripture(literature) a few years ago.
I supported. Religious fundamentalists didn't. They justify murdering those who their
mentally imbalanced Deity hates.

28. Enver Hoxha tried it
it didn't work out so well.

If you ban something you merely push it underground and begin another cycle of oppression. I'm all for combating religion, I am generally referred to as a militant atheist but I'm also an anarchist and think you can only work to change people's ideas you can not force them to agree with you.

Not sure who you're talking to when you refer to "you people" but you'd fail organising 101 - insulting people is the worst way to convince them of your argument

29. So much ignorance in one short statement...
Setting aside the monstrous advice you have for solving the middle east's problems, (which everyone else has done an excellent job of critiquing) I'd like to point out the fundamental flaw in your reasoning.

Religion is the cause of the troubles in the Middle east.

As this statement is itself untrue and speaks volumes about the ignorance of the poster regarding the history of the region, how can we expect his solution to be anything but more unenlightened, overly simplistic garbage?
