Israeli media: Abbas tells Obama he's on verge of resignation

President Mahmoud Abbas told US President Barack Obama that the present Israeli administration's intransigence has left him no choice but to resign, according to Hebrew-language news reports.

But Yasser Abed Rabbo, the secretary-general of the PLO's executive committee, told Ma'an that the reports were "not true at all."

Abed Rabbo said he “witnessed the phone call between President Abbas and President Obama and the talks did not have anything to do to with Abbas resigning. However Obama said that Hilary Clinton will visit the area soon to encourage the situations for the better.”

The Secretary-General of the Palestinian Presidency, At-Tayyib Abdul Rahim also denied the Channel Ten report.

Who do you think will take his place? Barghouti? I could see him. Not Dahlan. Maybe some joint executive? Whoever it is, what can they do differently given the realities of Hamas and Netanyahu? I mean aside from cleaning up corruption? I'm not saying I'm a fan of Abbas, but I also appreciate the limits of what he's got to work with.

There are "up and comers" like Nassar Juma who are well respected by the Palestinians but going from the leg. counsel to PA chairman is probably to much of a jump.
