Paul McCartney pledges support to OneVoice movement
Bethlehem - Ma’an - Sir Paul McCartney officially joined the International Board of Advisors of the OneVoice movement, a grassroots organization aiming at broadcasting the views of what it calls the “overwhelming majority” of moderates in both Israel and Palestine.

The Board of Directors already includes actors Danny DeVito and Jason Alexander, as well as international dignitaries and political figures like Dennis Ross.

McCartney met with OneVoice Israel Chairwoman Irit Admoni Perlman during his visit to the region in September and was later asked to join the board, according to the statement.

"They told me that the vast majority of people in both societies are moderates and simply want a better life for their families and themselves,” a statement from the organization quoted McCartney as saying, “This gave me great hope that, one day, people like them will help to bring about a peaceful resolution to the troubles in the area. I am, therefore, happy to lend my support in this way to the cause of peace."

3. Perhaps this group will try to organize another concert
Maybe with someone as high profile as McCartney involved there is a better chance that such efforts will succeed.

It seems that this group has been quiet since their last attempt at a peace concert was scuttled.

4. Dennis Ross?
This neocon signed a couple of PNAC letters in support of the Iraq War. He was one of Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith's pals.

6. The organization welcomes support from a very diverse group of people
Other members of the advisory board include James Zogby, Talab El-Sana (a United Arab List MK, who has been very critical of the Israeli government and at one point called for an international boycott of Israel), and several Palestinian officials and businessmen; the latter include Bashar Masri, chair of Massar International. One Israeli member is Alon Liel, chair of the Israeli-Syrian Peace Committee.

7. Including the people responsible for over 4,000 dead GIs in Iraq is an abomination
This is like inviting Doctor Mengele to the AMA Convention.

9. Well, I supported OneVoice right up till now, but....
Paul Boring Old Fart McCartney???? Why don't they go for the gold when it comes to bland and boring and get Celine Dion to team up with him on the Board of Advisors?

10. Now, that's sacrilege...
though I will concede that nothing he'd done post-Beatles has been as good as what the Beatles did.

11. I know. I should have said Sir Paul Boring Old Fart McCartney...
I hated everything from the Beatles except for Helter Skelter, and when it comes to post-Beatles blandness, all I have to say is 'Mull of Kintyre'...

But on a serious note, I'm guessing he got this position coz he's got a real interest in the conflict and has something to add (his high profile is enough, I guess). I wish him and OneVoice the best, and I sincerely hope he NEVER EVER EVER sings or writes a song for them or anything horrific like that...
