Gaza pounded amid push for truce
SOURCE: BBC

Israel's chief negotiator is to travel to Cairo to discuss an Egyptian ceasefire plan that could end the 20-day-old conflict in the Gaza Strip.

As an Israeli spokesman talked of diplomatic "momentum", the Palestinian militant group Hamas said the talks had made progress, but did not elaborate.

However, intense fighting continued in Gaza, with Israeli troops pushing deeper into Gaza City.

Israeli military officials say they attacked 70 military targets overnight, including a mosque they say was being used to store weapons.

The BBC's Hamada Abu Qammar in Gaza says the coastal enclave has come under extremely heavy artillery fire from the east, filling the skies with thick smoke.

He said Israeli tanks seemed to be pushing closer to the heart of Gaza City, close to the UN headquarters, and that there were reports of 21 people killed in fighting since the early hours.

1. IDF seems to attack 60-70 "military targets" every day.
How many "military targets" can there be in the Gaza strip?

I just read a story that says tonight they shelled three high rises in downtown Gaza City but, it didn't say what the object of that shelling was.

2. I don't know...
and it feels so...(I can't think of an appropriate expression)...to be sitting here in peace and safety while a city is being bombed into oblivion...

I read that at least 7 more rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel this morning (Thursday morning) but I can't remember where I read it.

3. They found the launchers. I posted the story here somewhere.
I read tonight that Gaza City has a pop of half a million people. That means, about a third of the whole population of Gaza lives there.

4. If Falluja or Southern Lebanon are any indication
there could be thousands. Hamas has been digging in and fortifying Gaza since they took power.
