West, Arabs reach deal on UN Gaza resolution
United Nations. Western powers and Arab states reached agreement on Thursday on a draft Security Council resolution that would call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Arab and Western diplomats said, Reuters reported.

"In principle there is an agreement," Arab League U.N. envoy Yahya Mahmassani told reporters after a day of negotiations. Palestinian representative Riyad Mansour said, "Yes, we have a deal" and a Western diplomat said, "Apparently there is an agreement."

The Security Council scheduled closed-door consultations for 5.00 p.m. EST/2200 GMT.
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said the council would vote on the draft on Thursday, but the Western diplomat, who asked not to be identified, said the vote could be delayed until Friday.

3. Yeah, I saw that.
I think the idea of not trafficing in arms is going to have to be coupled with a good deal of positive improvements for the people of Gaza (and the West Bank) to be workable, and in any case it does not sound clear whether Hamas or the PNA have agreed to it, and this "resolution" will not resolve much without those two on board.

5. Yep, I just saw it too.,
I don't have an opinion about it yet, although I think they ought to talk to Hamas 24/7 if that would mean less killing. It is unattributed so far, and hence it could be any of a number of sorts of bullshit, so I'm in wait and see mode.
