‘We’re wading in death, blood and amputees. Pass it on – shout it out’
Amid the tidal wave of human misery swamping Gaza City’s central hospital a horrified Norwegian volunteer doctor found a minute to type a text message on his mobile phone to friends back home.

“We are wading in death, blood, and amputees. Many children. A pregnant woman. I have never experienced anything so terrible. Now we hear tanks. Pass it on, send it around, shout it out. Anything. DO SOMETHING! DO MORE! We are living in a history book now, all of us.” It was signed Mads Gilbert, one of two Norwegian doctors toiling relentlessly alongside exhausted Palestinian medics.

So far, despite a flurry of diplomatic activity, no one has done anything. As Israel and Hamas fought a bloody battle to the death on Gaza’s tightly packed streets and alleys, there was no slowing of the flow of broken bodies in al-Shifa hospital. To make matters worse, the United Nations said that Gaza was about to run out of food, water and basic medicines in a matter of days.

Israel has said that it is making surgical strikes to cut Hamas out of the Gaza society. It is a brutal surgery, though, with blunt instruments and without anaesthetic. Entire families vanish beneath the rubble of broken homes. With Hamas’s die-hard fighters taking cover among a terrified civilian population, there is nowhere to run.

2. I feel like I don't dare say what I really want to say...
This is despicable and barbaric. I will NOT respect it, I will NOT accept any excuses for it. No nation-state deserves to survive if this is what it takes for them to do so.

3. It's awful
but this is war.

Until there is no war, there will be deaths and destruction.

And mankind hasn't figured out how to live without war.

6. Bullshit. This is mass slaughter. This is collective punishment.

There were plenty of different courses that could have been taken. When Hamas won a legislative majority in free and fair elections, Israel could have honored the will of the Palestinian people and recognized the government they had voted for themselves.

Hamas itself, right after the election, announced that it hoped to form a unity government with Fatah -- but no, the fucking neocon imperialists would have none of it, and instead set themselves to fucking things up to make conditions for the Palestinians -- who had the nerve to choose a party that the Occupiers did not approve of -- as miserable as possible.

Like bombing the newly operational power plant in Gaza in 2006. Imposing blockades, making life as miserable as possible for the Gazans -- who are largely refugees and descendents of the refugees from the 1948 war that expelled them from their homelands.

How terrible of them that they started fighting back.

Israel bred these enemies every step of the way.

12. Hamas thinks all of Israel is occupied
who cares that they don't recognize the country, but that they have always stated that they will use their terror and resistance to get back all their land.

And they are no democracy with their lack of free press, religion, no rights.

I will not be a terrorist sympathizer, although there are sure plenty of them on this forum.

Pity the innocents.

14. Frankly, if my land was stolen and my family dispossessed, I would fight back, too.
I refuse to fault the Palestinians who are fed up with being abused and oppressed and outright murdered.

If a nation-state can only exist by constant violence against those whose homeland they've expropriated, then that nation-state does not deserve to exist.

4. "Barbaric" is a good word. "Despicable" is good too.
And "stupid" works really well.

8. It will get worse
Because Hamas will not be destroyed and they will be back with a vengence. Another round of innocents killed. And so it goes. What a waste.

5. This is slaughter with impunity and has nothing to do with self defense.
Shame on all of us.

9. Nobody ever really wins with violence. Everybody loses and violence begats more violence.

10. And that is the bottom line...
But... as you know... the bombings will continue until peace breaks out.

Too bad God doesn't do the smite thing anymore... or the lightening bolt thing...
