1. as I understand it...

only current news posts directly related to the current events are allowed in GD. Anything else gets shoved down here. AND the GD posts must abide by the I/P rules which also state you can't link pictures and videos for some reason. Also, there are special moderation policies which give more power to the mods to lock and move the posts quickly.

I think the policy stinks personally and I see no difference between discussing the Iraq invasion and discussing the current Gaza crisis. I don't buy the whole "well there were more disruptors in the I/P threads so they need special forum and rules" since many other topics, the Warren situation comes to mind, were just as heated and controversial.

This is the gist of my understanding and I may be wrong. There was a mod post about this floating around somewhere...

:evilgrin: I guess the easiest answer is to follow the insanely stupid I/P rules if you wanna post in GD. If you wanna post anything that violates the I/P rules like pictures or video, you're fucked and expect your post to disappear into the ether.

5. I would be inclined to agree with that

not because I think the admins and mods are anti-Palestine per se (they very well could be but that's kinda hard to quantify) but because I really REALLY think the admins are paranoid about DU coming across as anti-Israel and as such its reputation would be somehow tarnished. I really don't get why you can't post pics and videos. The main mod Lithos said it had something to do with the rules not being updated for faster webservice (I guess it used to be that pics and videos were limited but I don't remember that) but I find that a bit hard to believe.
