Hamas Calls For 'Day of Wrath'...
Source: Gulf Daily News

GAZA CITY: Hamas called for a "day of wrath" today after Israel killed a senior leader, his wives and children in an air strike yesterday.

The defiant group called on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and annexed east Jerusalem to demonstrate against the Israeli offensive.

But as international efforts for a cease-fire gathered momentum, Israel vowed to continue its offensive with "an iron fist".

Hamas called on its website for "massive marches" starting off from the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem and from "all the mosques in the West Bank."

"Let Friday be a day of solidarity with our people in Gaza and a day of wrath against the Zionist occupation and its settlers," said Hamas, which has ruled the Strip since toppling forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in June last year.

In its first deadly blow against the top ranks of the group, Israel killed Nizar Rayan, a cleric widely regarded as one of Hamas' most hardline leaders, had called for renewed suicide bombings inside the Jewish nation.

Nine people, including four of Rayan's wives and two children, were killed in the bombing in Jabaliya.

Many Hamas leaders are in hiding, anticipating assassination attempts by Israel.

Hamas Radio said Rayan rejected Hamas advice to leave his house.

Rayan, 49, mentored suicide bombers and with an ammunition belt strapped to his stocky frame, would sometimes patrol with Hamas fighters.

"The blood of Sheikh Nizar Rayan and the blood of other martyrs will never be wasted and the enemy will pay a heavy price for the crimes it committed," said Hamas official Ayman Taha.

3. Yep.
I they could have a day of wrath, then they would have inflicted it much earlier.

2. How is the idea of mulitple wives still acceptable in today's society?
In any case, very sad that the wives and children were killed in this attack.

6. This shit is just going to go on and on and on and on and on and on...
Three ways out:

(a) Drive off and/or kill enough Palestinians to reduce them to a minor, powerless irritant, confine them to reservations policed by the IDF and the Israeli Security State, and completely absorb their last remaining redoubts into Greater Israel.

(b) Educated and compassionate Israelis give up on the Zionist project in disgust and emigrate elsewhere, leaving behind only brutes and thugs who will eventually create a Mad Max wasteland where no sane person wants to live.

(c) Creation of a completely non-sectarian, non-apartheid democratic state where the common humanity of all is recognized and cooperative efforts toward the betterment of all is the national project.

8 of them survive. At that rate, there's no chance for (a).

As for (c), he was apparently the Yassin-replacement. If (c) were to happen, it would be the Palestinians that drove him out--instead of declaring a "day of wrath".

Personally, I find the "day of wrath" business ironic: Kill 300+ Palestians, eh, theyr'e martys, they wanted death, valiant heroes, etc., etc. Kill one high-ranking Hamas cleric and they dust off the "day of wrath" posters stored in the back hall of the mosque. So we now know that Hamas considers one of its leaders to be worth more than at least 350 rank-and-file Hamasians.

27. The "Zionist Project"? Oh, do you mean the country of Israel?
And no, number 3 is not going to work. The hate on both sides is far too great for the formation of a non-sectarian, non-apartheid, non-Islamic state.

The only hope- and it's a dim one- is two states.

A two-state solution springs up overnight.

I have seen some of the more offensive 'grave dancing' posts deleted. It does get tiresome to see people take delight in death. As if the lives being lost are pieces in a chess match.

19. It's like watching a horrible oncoming train wreck.
I was hoping that, as the holidays are now mostly over, the world would get busy tomorrow. But, it wouldn't surprise me if Israel moved before then since they seemed to be exploiting the holiday distractions.

As if for the world's saddest camping trip. He must have been six or so.

Spoke about 1min too soon.

I do wonder where they would go to. The whole length of the strip (not a large distance) has been hit at some point in the assault.
