Hamas 'bars injured leaving Gaza
"Egypt says the Hamas militant group, which controls Gaza, is preventing hundreds of wounded Palestinians from leaving for treatment in Egypt.

Cairo says dozens of empty ambulances are at the Rafah crossing - the only one to Gaza which avoids Israel.

Hamas said it was drawing up lists of the injured but that it was difficult getting them to the border because of the ongoing Israeli air strikes.

Egypt has summoned Israel's ambassador to demand an end to the bombardment.

Hamas officials say 271 Palestinians have been killed and 600 wounded since Israel began its aerial assault on the Gaza Strip on Saturday, but none of the injured have yet left via Rafah.

Egypt has helicopters and doctors on standby at the Rafah crossing.

There are also up to 40 ambulances waiting to go into Gaza to bring out the most seriously wounded. Tonnes of medical supplies have arrived at the nearby airport of El-Arish.

But the Egyptian authorities say that, at the moment, they have no-one to treat.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the wounded were "barred from crossing" and he blamed "those in control of Gaza" for putting the lives of the injured at risk. "

but...but..but... Crowded hosptials in gaza make great photo ops! Why would we send them elsewhere where they could actually get treated! That would just take away from the body count we can use to blast israel!

And, OP, you should be ashamed for using the dead to make a political point. Shame on you.

Not to mention that Israel bombed 40 tunnels at the border crossing today, as well.

2. "it was difficult getting them to the border because of the ongoing Israeli air strikes."
perhaps it was Israeli bombing attacks that make it more difficult? btw - in another LBN thread it says that Egypt told those is Gaza to stay away from the border because Israel plans to bomb more tunnels....
but hey - let's not let that get in the way of support for Israel. :eyes:

3. Conflicting and misleading headline. Comparing these 2 stories, difficult to tell who is doing what.
From OP's link:
Hamas said it was drawing up lists of the injured but that it was difficult getting them to the border because of the ongoing Israeli air strikes.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the wounded were "barred from crossing" and he blamed "those in control of Gaza" for putting the lives of the injured at risk.

So, who is barring them from crossing? Can't tell from BBC story.

Egypt police repel Palestinians on tense Gaza border
Egyptian police fired in the air near the Gaza border town of Rafah on Sunday to prevent Palestinians entering Egypt after Israel launched air strikes to destroy tunnels along the tense frontier. One policeman was killed and another wounded by shots from across the border, a security official and medics said, but it was not immediately clear who fired them.

"Dozens of civilians tried to break through the Barahma crossing after Israel launched air strikes along the Gaza-Egypt border. They were repelled by Egyptian police firing in the air," the official said.

Immediately afterwards, a Palestinian man with head wounds walked across the border and was taken away by one of the dozens of Egyptian ambulances waiting to treat the wounded since Saturday.

too?

What a bunch of bullshit.

When this is all said and done, only Israel will have more blood on its hands than Egypt.

8. The blending of two different stories to try and create a pro-hams narrative is just plain ridiculou...
Edited on Sun Dec-28-08 08:48 PM by Kurska
Here let me lay it out for you

Egypt is offering to take in the wounded if hamas would get off their ass and start giving them to Egypt instead of dumping them at gaza hospitals to create a PR Campaign

Egypt is also desperately trying to fend off hundreds of if not thousands of Gaza ns who want to blow a hole in the border and stream into egypt.

Wanting to take in the war wounded does not mean it's hypocritical of egypt to deny entry into their sovereign country to every bill and jane who wants to escape the conflict. If they wanted to do that they'd be offering to take in REFUGES not the wounded, which is what the story I posted was about.

But then again to the pro hamas camp sometimes fact (or lives) seem to matter little in compassion to trashing Israel.

drop to in order to defend Hamas.

It's not enough that Hamas has most of its weapons within mosques, hospitals, schools, etc... that they launch from these locations, and that they're hiding NOW among civilians. No, some need even MORE proof (not even videos would do it) that Hamas is outrageously evil and not the least concerned about their Palestinian pawns.

Good points.

Any update on the situation with Egypt and Gazans getting medical aid there?

13. You post is asinine.
I don't think anyone here is engaging in a "Hamas love fest." But many of us are appalled at the over-the-top campaign of the Israelis and even more appalled that Israel is doing it with American weapons and unconditional US support.

This will not end until there is a just, comprehensive peace settlement, and not one unilaterally imposed by Israel. If Israel wants peace, there must be justice.

Hamas: No passage of wounded to Egypt until crossings completely open

evil bastards. playing the "victim" card and expecting their drooling, useful idiots to go along with their propaganda. Hamas needs to be utterly destroyed, and not a moment too soon. Anyone pro-Palestinian who really cares for Palestinian welfare should want Hamas gone forever and hope that the IDF does their job while minimizing civilian casualties. Peace is a joke with Hamas remaining in charge.

12. I wonder if they want those crossings to be open so that while
the injured go one way they can smuggle weapons going the other?

14. Who says they're in charge of anything?
Look beyond the propaganda and check the results. Clearly Hamas is a neutered dog. Their image is being manipulated for western consumption.
