Hamas urges suicide attacks as thousands march in Gaza
GAZA CITY (AFP) — A Hamas parliamentarian called on Friday for more suicide attacks against Israel as thousands of Palestinians marched through Gaza in honour of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day, an Iranian-declared observance.

"We call on all the factions to undertake efforts to contain the enemy and halt its aggression by planning martyrdom operations," Ahmed Abu Helbiya told a crowd of more than 2,000 protestors.

Abu Helbiya saluted recent attacks in Jerusalem, including a shooting in March at a Jewish seminary that killed eight students and an incident earlier this week when a Palestinian crashed a car into a group of Israeli soldiers, wounding 16 people before being shot dead.

1. Well, this has worked out really great.
Is this what Israeli government policy for these last 60 years set out to accomplish?

2. An American Senator called.for the bombing of Mecca
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 10:30 PM by azurnoir
a few years back, does that equate to the entire American governmentr calling for Mecca to be bombed. or does one speaking for everyone only apply to Arabs that are saying things useful to the "ProIsrael cause"

3. Hamas is not the entire Palestinian government
Also, suicide bombings against Israelis have already been employed by Hamas.

I think it would be wonderful if one of the leaders of Hamas condemned these remarks and stated that Hamas was actually opposed to suicide bombings.

In fact, Al-Quds Day would have been a fantastic opportunity for Hamas leaders to declare that they no longer support using violence against civilians as a means to achieve their political goals.

9. it would be nice if Hamas wasn't a terrorist organization
then maybe someone there would condemn terrorism. However, Hamas is a terrorist organization, and I doubt anyone from a terrorist organization is going to condemn terrorism.

12. Amen to that!
If they have any interest in being recognized as part of the legitimate governing body of the Palestinian people by the international community then it would behoove them to reconsider their relationship with terrorism.

14. However you slice it - that could really transform the situation
Elections might also be helpful. Perhaps their falling popularity will force their hand and lead them to some kind of renewed coalition with Fatah. Or maybe they will get voted out.

Although, having them on the outside looking in as far as the PA goes might not be a good thing.

Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 09:14 PM by number6
one secular democratic state, Jews, Muslims, Christians, are equal
The Arabs give up Hamas and Hezbolla(and all the others Islamic Jihad etc.
The Jews give up Zionism, in return they get all property they lost in
Europe and all the Middle east, Jews get full citizenship in Jordan, Egypt,
Iraq, Iran .....they(Jews) get right of return, The Palestinians get the right
of return. rather than Israel has a right to exist, It would be Jews have the right
to live in Middle eastern countries...as full citizens

far fetched, I know

19. A lovely dream - but not something that will happen in the near future!
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 10:27 AM by LeftishBrit
And any external attempt to impose it, against the will of both Jews and Arabs in the region, would be just about as successful as imposing the American idea of 'freedom and democracy' on Iraq has been.

PS When do you think that the USA and Mexico will solve the illegal immigration problem by joining together as one happy nation? I think that's about equally likely!

23. plan B , detente, the green line plan
remove all the settlements in the west bank.

open the Egypt-Gaza border.

in return for.... All Hamas and Fatah step down from all
Government positions, new elections are held.

this is not a peace plan, but temporary

like detente between the US and USSR.

21. Far fetched, and suicidal
How about putting together a plan that might actually be accepted by the people who are involved?

No Israeli in his right mind, nor their leadership, would support your position, so snowball's chance in hell is about right.
