Palestinians Capture Violence Of Israeli Occupation On Video
In a graphic and hard-hitting film Peter Beaumont speaks to Palestinians filming abuse from settlers and Israeli armed forces

An Israeli child from a far-right settler group in the West Bank city of Hebron hurls a stone up the stairs of a Palestinian family close to their settlement and shouts: "I will exterminate you." Another spits towards the same family.

Another settler woman pushes her face up to a window and snarls: "Whore!"

They are shocking images. There is footage of beatings, their aftermath, and the indifference of Israel's security forces to serious human rights abuses. There is footage too of those same security forces humiliating Palestinians – and most seriously – committing abuses themselves.

They are contained in a growing archive of material assembled by the Israeli human rights organisation B'Tselem in a remarkable project called Shooting Back.

The group has supplied almost 100 video cameras to vulnerable Palestinian communities in Hebron, the northern West Bank and elsewhere, to document and gather evidence of assaults and abusive behaviour – largely by settlers.

1. Boy oh boy
Karsenty and Halevy have their work cut out for them, they're Pallywood productions don't you know. Besides don't you know B'Tselem can't be trusted as was shown so definitively in a recent thread here :sarcasm:

Seriously, though these tapes or certified copies of them need to forwarded to CNN and Obama's campaign really the American public needs to be exposed to this and rarely gets is

2. But. but, but, what about the translation?
You know that nasty suicide bombing bee, or the Hamas Mickey Mouse, or even Amajihidiot, or the rest of the anti-semitic terrorists!

We are always supposed to believe it is BAD TRANSLATION! That they didn't really say what the translation says they did.

And you believe this translation?

Why do people believe some translations and not others, or is it just to fit the political agenda?

3. There's one or two in this forum who are fluent in Hebrew you can ask to translate for you...
But things like beatings, abuse, shooting a Palestinian in the foot, they're all things that don't need translation coz there's no words involved....

Why is it that whenever there's proof of abuse against Palestinians, you try to divert the subject away from that? Did you watch the video? I don't get how any progressive could watch it and react as you've done...

4. No, I thought the video was horrible
I am just pointing out the obvious hypocrisy.

When video of Palestinian TV is posted, with young children waxing on about becoming suicide bombers, or text of mothers celebrating the deaths of their martyr sons, or cartoons with hideously anti-semitic messages, or Amanidiot's or Hamas's rhetoric about doing away with Israel, there is VIDEO depicting exactly what they are saying.

Celebrating death, etc.

But the hypocrites sputter...no, no no no, it is a bad translation! You are misunderstanding Arabic! It isn't what you think.

Video doesn't lie, and that is whether it is the settler violence caught on tape, or the anti-semitic rantings or indoctrination of youth into the Palestinian culture that celebrates killing Jews.

5. Actions don't need translation, but words do...
Take the bits with subtitles at the beginning of the video, for example. I've got no reason to question that the woman and that child aren't saying what the sub-titles says for several reasons 1) they're both totally aggro and sure aren't trying to start a conversation about the weathe 2) The intended audience of videos such as this is the Israeli population, and if the translation was wrong, Israelis would know straight away. 3) If the video was of a settler talking away and there's no actions to give an indication to an English-speaker of what they're talking about, and if hebrew speakers started to question the translation, then I'd go and annoy one of the people i know who speak hebrew and ask them to translate for me...

You do realise that Ahmanutjob wasn't translated correctly, don't you? Correctly translated it was a nasty comment, but the translation given wasn't correct. And he speaks Farsi, not Arabic.

6. Incorrect.
Sometimes actions, and indeed pictures and videos, need 'translations.' Some are "mistranslated" (misinterpreted). As the saying goes, "don't believe everything you hear, and half of what you see."

7. Some might, but this video sure doesn't....
Even without the sub-titles, it's clear that what was being said was incredibly ugly. That's because the actions that accompanied the words were every bit as ugly. It's not the same as someone giving a speech or being quoted in the media where there's no violent actions to marry up with what is more than likely ugly words....

As I was talking about this video specifically, and not photos (photos are a snapshot that carries no context and can be misinterpreted), let's talk about the video. What was yr reaction on seeing the behaviour of settlers? Actually seeing that behaviour is much more confronting than reading about it...
