Gaza: Blast at Hamas training camp kills 2
Ali Waked Published: 07.08.08

Two people were killed and two were injured in an explosion at a Hamas training camp near the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, Palestinian sources reported Tuesday morning.

The circumstances of the blast were unclear, but a source in the Strip said it caused a building in the training facility to collapse.

The Israel Defense Forces has yet to comment on the incident, which is believed to be the result of a "work accident" during the production of weapons.

The Israeli army has not struck in Gaza since the ceasefire agreement with Palestinian militant groups went into effect, despite the recent violations of the truce.

About a month ago, a mysterious explosion in a building in the southern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya left seven people dead, including a baby and a child, and dozens injured.

snip...

According to the statement, the dead were operatives of a special Hamas unit. The organization promised that its people will “continue following in the path of those killed.”

3. I believe
they have more 'work related' accidents than anyone on the planet.

Or at least part of it. It is a good example of the kind of irresponsible journalism (home journalism? what was this?) that gets put out there regularly, which people such as Mr_Jefferson eagerly swallow and repost.

Around 6:00 in the short, there's a scene showing the narrator popping out of her taxi and running around the corner of a building in Rafah, ostensibly for cover, while she breathlessly states that they are being shot at by the IDF (from a watchtower). She comments on the women and children nonchalantly walking by as being so used to gunfire that they aren't even afraid. They certainly are unafraid, apparently because they seem to be in no danger at all. Cars slowly drive by. Her Palestinian driver stands there without cover, commenting that it is scary "because the bullets can bounce." Very little gunfire was heard at all. A few single shots... none actually directed towards her.

She then mentions a statistic. Since 2000, 250 people in Rafah have been killed. She neglects to mention how many of them were civilians (vs. gunmen) and how many were killed by the IDF as opposed to by Palestinians. She neglects to mention that Rafah is the site of entry for most of the weapons smuggled into Gaza and is under Hamas' control.

One last thing. If most ISM protesters are as annoying as the one they showed, (an elderly hippy yelling at the IDF soldiers that she hopes they can someday learn to love their neighbors), then I applaud the Israeli soldiers' collective restraint. She wouldn't last 5 minutes in most US cities. There is no way that she could have thought she was actually helping the situation. She chastised them in English too... she just spoke veeeery sloooowly so they'd be sure to understand.

Do most "killing zones" have elderly grandma hippies wandering around antagonizing the soldiers? Maybe they have a different idea of what "killing zone" means than I do.
